The William & Mary Learning & Design Lab (LeaD Lab) is dedicated to advancing innovative teaching and professional development for K-12 history, civics, and geography educators. Our mission is to create engaging, research-based educational experiences that empower teachers to foster critical thinking and inquiry-based learning in their classrooms.
Position Summary
The LeaD Lab seeks a passionate and experienced Master Teacher to design and deliver professional development microcourses and in-person workshops for K-12 history, civics, and geography teachers. This role combines instructional design, subject matter expertise, and educational innovation to support the development of high-quality teaching resources and programs. The Master Teacher will also contribute to research and thought leadership through conference presentations and publications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Instructional Design: Develop and deliver engaging online microcourses and in-person workshops for K-12 educators, incorporating best practices in instructional design and adult learning. Work closely with other educators, instructional designers, and stakeholders to ensure high-quality program development and delivery.
- Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as a content expert for history, civics, and geography education in the development of educational materials, fellowship programs, and workshops.
- Curriculum Development: Create innovative and standards-aligned educational materials, lesson plans, and resources that foster inquiry-based learning and critical thinking.
- Program Development: Collaborate on the design and implementation of new professional development initiatives and fellowship programs for teachers.
- Research and Thought Leadership: Present LeaD Lab work at educational conferences and contribute to articles and publications on best practices in history, civics, and geography education.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay current on educational trends, instructional technologies, and best practices in K-12 history, civics, and geography education.

Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree or higher in Education, History, Political Science, Geography, or a related field.
- Extensive experience teaching history, civics, or geography at the K-12 level.
- Demonstrated experience in designing and delivering professional development for educators, in online and/or in-person formats.
- Deep knowledge of history, civics, and geography education, including inquiry-based and primary source-driven instructional strategies.
- Proven ability to create engaging, standards-aligned educational materials.
- Experience presenting at conferences and contributing to educational publications is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Familiarity with learning management systems and educational technologies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with fellowship programs for teachers.
- Knowledge of adult learning principles and professional development best practices.
- Familiarity with state and national standards for history, civics, and geography education.
- Experience in program evaluation and assessment.
- Engagement with museums and historic sites.
- Innovative thinking and a passion for transforming education.

Advertised Pay Range
$65,000 to $75,000 commensurate with experience
