The William Paterson Unversity Counseling, Health and Wellness Center is dedicated to providing clinical, educational, and outreach services in support of William Paterson students. The Center is welcoming, accepting and dedicated to serving a culturally diverse student population seeking to make informed decisions about their physical and emotional well-being.
The Center is hiring a Counselor / Group Interventions Specialist who is a licensed Psychologist, Clinical Social Worker or Professional Counselor with demonstrated experience, knowledge and understanding of clinical and psychoeducational group intervention methods. This Counselor must be dedicated to and experienced in counseling students of culturally diverse and intersectional identities.
This is a 12 month full-time on site position. There is a capacity to offer time limited remote work opportunities during the calendar as determined by operational need of the department.
Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to :
- Providing students with culturally proficient individual and group counseling, treatment planning, triage assessments, referrals to resources and follow-up services internal and external to the University via in-person and telehealth student visits.
- Providing group counseling that is psychotherapeutic, or psycho-educationally based and include areas which assist students in addressing treatment plan goals. Group skills taught may include mood and behavioral grounding, social skills, grief / loss, substance abuse / co-occurring disorders, creative expressions, stress management, coping skills, trauma, and physical activities for mind / body / spirit.
- Completing timely group counseling assessments, session notes, and associated documentation of the student as part of a treatment plan.
- Providing lead, co-lead or training consultation of up to five therapeutic groups per week during the academic year and scheduled according to operational need to serve students.
- Using multi-modal facilitation skills to market, recruit and engage students in group interventions; ensuring that services are responsive to the beliefs, interpersonal styles, attitudes, language and behaviors of culturally diverse individuals and groups.
- Assist in creating and completion of assessment activities to determine the efficacy of group interventions.
- Facilitating referral and after-care services to ancillary providers where needed; case management and coordination of care with Health Center staff to develop comprehensive treatment plans.
- Providing consultation services to faculty and staff seeking assistance with students; following up with emergency intervention where necessary.
- Representing the Center on division-wide committees, at student learning fairs, Open House, Homecoming, move-in, and other assigned division and university-wide functions in support of the student body and the University's mission.
- Rotating with other staff in providing overnight and weekend on-call coverage and consultation.
