The Victim Advocate provides support and assistance to victims and witnesses of crime throughout the criminal justice process.

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents in this position. Incumbents must be able to perform the essential function of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.Educates victims and witnesses on their rights, criminal justice processes, and the resources available to themIdentifies and responds to the mental, physical, financial, and emotional needs of victimsMonitors court activity and communicates case status and legal proceedings to victims and witnessesServes as an advocate and liaison for victims and witnesses with law enforcement, prosecution, judicial members, and other agenciesProvides crisis intervention, emotional support, and guidance to victims and witnessesConsults with prosecuting attorneys regarding trial preparation Assists in preparing victims and witnesses to testify and provides reassurance to reluctant witnesses Accompanies victims and witnesses to all court proceedings, providing transportation when neededOrients victims to the Crime Victim Compensation Program and assists with the application process when appropriateProvides ongoing advocacy for the rights and care of victims, witnesses, and survivors within the criminal justice systemMaintains a high level of discretion, tact, and confidentiality when working on highly sensitive subject matter matters and materialsProfessionally interacts with the public, law enforcement officers, attorneys, judges, court staff, and colleaguesMaintains current knowledge of the Victim/Witness ProgramMaintains confidentiality of non-public records and makes available all data and information deemed a public record by the North Dakota Century Code.

Special Working Conditions: Must be available to provide emergency and on-call victim supportCompensation: Starting pay ranges from $26.11 to $28.72 per hour, based on qualifications and experience. Williams County offers a generous benefit package to all full time employees including a fully paid health, dental, and vision insurance plan for employees and eligible dependents, paid sick and vacation leave, term life insurance, full contribution to the North Dakota Public Employee Retirement system, and more!
