Job Purpose
This position is for an entry-level Preservation Technician who is self-motivated to gain experience in all aspects of the services that Williams Creek Management offers in the Greater Cincinnati region. The Preservation Technician will be expected to take direction from a Crew Foreman, Superintendent, or Team Leader and complete assigned tasks as efficiently as possible. The successful candidate will be career-oriented and looking for professional development opportunities in a fast-growing company with regional reach. The candidate should be motivated to ensure customer satisfaction by delivering high-quality preservation projects to customers in several markets, including but not limited to: conservation organizations, corporate campuses, educational institutions, government, parks, and utilities.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Plant species identification (native, ornamental, and invasive) or willingness to learn
· Green infrastructure inspections and maintenance (rain gardens, bioswales, detention basins)
· Perform invasive species management via mechanical and chemical treatments
· Read and understand herbicide labels, rig setups, proper mixing specifications, and best management practices
· Ability to read and understand blueprints, planting plans, and specifications
· Perform general equipment maintenance or willingness to learn
· Safely and efficiently operate several types of small engine equipment such as weed eaters, chainsaws, hedge trimmers, riding mowers, backpack blowers, etc.
· General landscape knowledge
· Installation of trees, shrubs, plugs, and seeding relating to turf, prairies, wetlands, and woodlands
· Rough, finish, and fine grading for seedbed preparation
· Mulch, stone, and compost installation
· Sediment control device installation and maintenance (silt fence, erosion control blanket, etc.)
· Light and heavy equipment operation
· Properly secure loads for transportation
· After 90 days, drive work trucks and pull trailers
Preservation Technician duties include but are not limited to these responsibilities.
Qualifications and Skills
· High school diploma or equivalent
· Safety oriented
· OSHA 10-hour safety training for Construction – provided during orientation if needed
· Pesticide Applicator License or ability to obtain one within 3 months of hire
· Time management
· Ability to multi-task and work efficiently on different projects from day to day
· Verbal and written communication skills
· Strong attention to detail on record keeping and tracking daily tasks and time on time cards.
· Ability to use good judgment and demonstrate integrity when interacting with clients
· Work in a Team environment every day
Physical Requirements
The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
· The employee must be willing and able to ride/drive long distances to jobs in company trucks, as well as work 10 hr shifts, as needed.
· Lift and move heavy objects, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
· Wear a backpack weighing up to 30 lbs. for extended periods.
· Tolerate extreme heat and/or extreme cold.
· Work throughout the week, out of town, and stay overnight, if required. No weekend work.
· Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
· Full background and MVR check before the first day.
