Summary:
Assist in the excavation and preparation of sites for the installation of underground utilities including water, sewer, and gas lines. Installation of water sewers and storm drain utilities. Requires skills typically acquired as a laborer. This position is required to work shifts including some evenings, weekends, and during inclement weather.
As an Underground Utility Construction Crew Member at Williams Ditching, you will play a crucial role in the excavation, installation, and maintenance of underground utility systems. This position involves working as part of a team to ensure that projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.
Responsibilities:
Maintaining production rate, grade, and alignment for all utilities installations. Other duties may include daily maintenance on equipment and any other related tasks.
- Assist in the excavation and preparation of sites for the installation of underground utilities including water, sewer, and gas lines.
- Help install and connect utility lines, ensuring proper alignment and secure fittings.
- Operate and maintain construction equipment such as backhoes, trenchers, and compactors (experience is a plus but not required).
- Follow safety procedures and guidelines to ensure a safe work environment.
- Perform routine inspections and maintenance on equipment and tools.
- Collaborate with team members to complete projects on time and according to specifications.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and other crew members regarding project progress and any issues encountered.

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience in construction or a related field is a plus but not required.
- Equipment operation experience is advantageous but not mandatory.
- A CDL license is a plus but not required.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and physical environments.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to safety.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new tasks and techniques.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry heavy materials and equipment (up to 50 pounds).
- Capability to perform physically demanding tasks, including digging, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in confined spaces and varying weather conditions.
Must pass a pre-employment drug screen
