ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support HUSD Vision, Mission and Goals.
- Assists with the administration of the media program by working cooperatively with the media center specialist, school administration and certified teaching staff.
- Promotes a climate within the library/media center which stimulates efforts to achieve educational objectives.
- Promotes the regular utilization of all media center resources.
- Checks books and other materials in and out of the library/media center.
- Collaborates with teachers in accordance with the direction and lesson plans of the media center specialist to guide students in the use of library/media center resources and reference materials.
- Assists students with locating books, resources, and references.
- Maintains library and media equipment.
- Assists the media center specialist with maintaining accurate records and inventory of literature sets, library books, resources and reference materials.
- Assists the media center specialist with maintaining an accounting of overdue books and materials and sends notices to staff, students and parents in accordance with school/district procedures.
- Assists with the collection of media center fees/fines and manages them in accordance with district policies and procedures.
- Assists with the coordination of special events such as book fairs and reading incentive programs.
- Manages the Follett Destiny program including using MS Office software for reports and other media center management and accountability as directed by the media center specialist and/or the school administration.
- Attends meetings as may be required to receive or convey information relevant to the media center.
- Participates in training as required to advance skills utilized in the performance of duties.
- Supervises students in the library before or after school as designed by the school administration.
- Due to the potential for access to confidential student information, it is absolutely mandatory that this position safeguard and maintain the confidentiality of the information stored and discussed in the school.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Prefer prior experience in a library setting.
- May assist in presenting programs to encourage and improve children's communication skills.
- Prefer familiarity with research skills and the technology that supports media center research.
- Experience in performing various general office/clerical duties.
- Skills and ability to perform the functions of the job to include: clerical, student supervision, computer & technology, basic academic matters, problem solving and managing work assignments.
- Ability to pass background and reference checking as stipulated by District standards.
- Valid IVP Fingerprint Card.

The employee is regularly required to perform the following duties:
- Frequent communication with parents, students, and staff including the exchange of accurate information.
- Occasionally move about the inside of the office to access file cabinets, office equipment, etc.
- Constantly operate a computer and other office equipment.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 50% of the time either standing or sitting.
- Often raising objects from a lower to higher position, higher to lower position, or horizontally weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Occasionally required to position body by bending body downward and forward by waist.
- Required to have close visual acuity to perform activities including preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-Time Position - 10 months Monday - Friday 8 hours a day
SALARY CLASSIFICATION: Appropriate salary placement on the Classified Hourly Salary Schedule.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated by Site Administrator and according to District Policy.
TOTAL PAID HOLIDAYS: 14
