Driver Job Description

General Summary:

This is a delivery position responsible for driving a tractor trailer for the purpose of delivering and unloading various products to customers. This position requires a professional attitude while using excellent customer service skills. You must work in accordance with state and DOT regulations as well as Williams Foods guidelines. Early morning start times are required in order to be successful in meeting customers’ needs. Working weekends and holidays may occasionally be required.

Essential Duties

• Courteous Communications (Positive, Appropriate and Respectful) with Customers, CO-workers and Management
• Deliver product within assigned route schedule and time windows. Immediately inform management team of any deviations.
• Unload product from trailer, by hand or using a hand cart, and place in designated customer storage areas. Will include transporting product on ramps, stairs, or docks in all weather conditions.
• Frequently lift, push, or move product that weighs 1-75 pounds, up to 100 pounds; frequently reach up to 72” to stack and unstack pallets and hand cart; constantly bend and twist while unloading product, and retrieving items from trailer.
• Verify deliver of items with customer and obtain proper signatures. Contact management for authorizations when discrepancies on invoice and communicate all errors/returns.
• Collect money (cash or checks) where required and turn in all funds collected daily.
• Pickup, load and unload damaged goods and customer returns, and complete necessary paperwork.
• Preform pre-trip and post-trip responsibilities in accordance with DOT regulations and Williams policy and procedures.
• Perform coupling procedures for the tractor/trailer as needed
• Complete DOT logs, company vehicle maintenance reports and communicate with appropriate company representative as required.
• Immediately advise manager of any unsafe conditions
• Maintain sanitary conditions in tractor and trailer
• Maintain and safely operate all assigned equipment (hand cart, pallets, load bars, etc.)
• Attend all required company meetings

Basic Requirements

• Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License
• Able to read, write and communicate English as it relates to the job and the safety regulations
• Must have basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide)
• Must pass pre-employment testing (Drug Screen, Background Check, Pre-Employment Physical Abilities Test)
• Must have a clean up to 7-year MVR
• Operate vehicle safely for long distances on a regular basis

Preferred Requirements

• Highschool diploma or general education degree (GED)
• 2 years food or beverage delivery experience
• Pallet breakdown and hand cart delivery experience
• 1-year commercial driving experience

Driver Uniform Service

• Drivers are required to wear a Williams Foods issued uniform while on the job.
• Driver will be issued 11 sets of uniforms and 1 jacket (this will include shirts, pants, and hat)
• Driver will have a choice of long or short sleeve shirts and long or short pants
• $3-$5 will be debited from driver check ever week for laundry service (Williams pays half, driver pays half)
• Driver is responsible for bringing dirty laundry every Wednesday for collection to be laundered
• Driver must turn in uniform if employment is discontinued
• Driver will be issued a metal container to keep paperwork, pens, and personal items in.
• Shoes are drivers responsibility: must be closed toed (recommend a comfortable shoe with good grip)
• Driver will be issued a photograph name badge that must be kept on them during working hours
