What are the responsibilities and job description for the GUARD HOUSE ATTENDANT position at Williams Lumber?

Summary: Responsible for checking all vehicle traffic entering or exiting the yard. The primary purpose of this position is reducing shrink within the yard caused by theft, dishonesty or human error.
Essential Duties and responsibilities to include but not limited to:
- Directs incoming customers to material location as needed. Uses radio for communications with Yard associates to notify of incoming customers.
- Notifies the Receiver/Inventory Control Specialist of inbound vender deliveries.
- Ability to recognize and distinguish the various yard merchandise.
- Inspects loads in customer vehicles exiting the yard, against customer’s receipt of purchase for accuracy regarding correct product, and quantity.
- If a discrepancy exists between the customers receipt and actual product exiting; the Gate Guard will refer the customer back to the yard for the correction and note the error on the yellow copy of the yard ticket.
- Checks customers entering the yard with returns and notifies foreman of the exchange.
- Maintains daily tally of “customers served” and “load errors” by the yard associates for incentive pay purposes, and submits these weekly to the Yard Foreman.
- Checks vehicles exiting the yard for load-overhangs, loose tie-downs, flagging needed, etc. to reduce road hazards.
- Ability to follow all safety guidelines.
- Exercises confidentiality in all communications both internal and external.
- Performs random spot checks of out-bound loaded company vehicles against invoice to ensure proper material and quantity.
- Services customers that require propane, kerosene or salt (if the product is within the vicinity of the guard shed).
- Notifies the Foreman immediately if there is any suspicion of theft or integrity regarding a customer or associate.
- Serves as a back up to Load Check as needed.
- Maintains cleanliness and safety of guard shed and surrounding area.
As with all other jobs, other duties may be assigned. Management reserves the right to reassign an individual in this position to another position in the interest of efficient personnel utilization.
