What are the responsibilities and job description for the STORE ASST MGR position at Williams Lumber?
Summary: Oversees and directs store personnel to assure effective and efficient operations in accordance with established policy and procedures. This position is required to work a minimum of a 45-hour workweek. Weekends will be part of the regular work schedule.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities to include but not limited to:
- Prepares the weekly work schedule for the store personnel to assure adequate coverage and cost efficiency of staffing needs.
- Approves or denies associates time off requests.
- Has the authority to shift subordinate store associates to another department or assignment as needed.
- Regularly tours and inspects the store departments to assure optimum operational conditions.
- Interfaces with associates in groups and one-on-one situations.
- Delegates and directs associates to perform duties within their assigned departments or other areas of the store.
- Meets with Department Heads in one-on-one situations to assign them task to be completed within their departments.
- Offers support to store staff when needed.
- Assists and covers areas of the store if no staffing is available.
- Handles customer complaints and ensures that issues are resolved where possible.
- Interviews and coordinates the hiring of new associates.
- Completes and conducts associate performance evaluations.
- Handles disciplinary actions regarding unacceptable behavior or poor performance of an associate.
- Along with the Store Manager conducts associate terminations.
- Ensures all customers are approached and offered assistance.
- Ensures that every effort is made to obtain or located product for customers.
- Follows up on out of stock situations.
- Ensures that proper procedures are followed for taking special orders.
- Assist with the ongoing training of all subordinate personnel.
- Communicate and enforce company policies and procedures.
- Notify the Store Manager of issues as they arise.
- Assist associates in determining and achieving their personal goals for advancement.
- Welcome communication and suggestions from fellow associates.
- Be knowledgeable of all register operations and ensure proper procedures are followed at all times.
- Use and operate security cameras as needed.
- Assist and monitor promotional merchandising presentation in store.
- Assist with store cycle count procedure as needed.
- Be familiar with and perform all necessary cashier functions.
- Familiar with and able to operate the key cutting machine.
- Familiar with and able to operate the paint mixer.
- Must assist in taking physical inventories.
- Must have knowledge in receiving.
- Knowledge of the Epicor System to include purchase orders inquires, product inquires, receiving inquires, report generation, time card management, computer spooler maintenance.
- Follow up regarding credit memos and defective goods.
- Respond to any indications of theft in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Make every effort to keep controllable expenses in line.
- Ensure proper phone procedures are followed.
- Be aware of competition within your market area.
- Be responsible for all the duties and functions of the Store Manager in his / her absence.
- Maintain job confidentiality.
- Must have product knowledge and knowledge in the various departments.
- Keep abreast of new product and changes in the industry.
- Know and follow the procedures for opening and closing the store.
- Responsible for the associate and customer safety within the store.
- Responsible for in-store machinery and equipment.
- Conducts cash register close out procedures.
- Be aware of and enforce all safety and security procedures.
- Maintain a professional attitude and appearance.

efficient personnel utilization.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises 5 or more associates assigned to the retail store. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training associates, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and / or Experience
Associate’s Degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or one to two years of related experience and / or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to read and comprehend correspondence and memos. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations to customers, associates and venders.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percents, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations where only limited standardizations exist.
