Job Description:
Williams & Swee LTD is seeking a highly organized and motivated Legal Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will provide support to attorneys in a busy law office, focusing on cases involving Workers' Compensation, Personal Injury, and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI). This position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities:
- File and Case Management: Open and maintain both physical and electronic case files; prepare Illinois Workers' Compensation Commission (IWCC), SSDI, and settlement forms; track deadlines.
- Document Preparation: Draft, proofread, and assist with filing legal documents, including pleadings, briefs, and settlement sheets.
- Client Communication: Provide timely updates to clients, coordinate with medical providers on records, bills, and liens, and manage communications with insurance companies.
- Scheduling and Coordination: Schedule depositions, SSDI hearings, and client appointments; arrange for process service as needed.
- Administrative Support: Track case expenses, conduct basic research, and assist the team with various tasks as required.
- Team Support: Step in to cover responsibilities for colleagues during absences or high-volume periods to ensure smooth office operations.
Qualifications:
- Desired Experience: 1-2 years in a legal assistant or paralegal role, ideally in Workers' Compensation, Personal Injury, or SSDI; however, we are willing to train the right candidate.
- Necessary Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Typing and filing skills, spelling, and English language proficiency, along with general math skills.
- Professional phone communication skills.
- Preferred Knowledge: Familiarity with IWCC processes, SSDI applications, and personal injury claims; familiarity with trade or factory work, medical terminology or the insurance industry is a plus.
- Additional Language Skills: Spanish proficiency is an advantage. Please let us know if you speak any second language.
