Summary
Weld metal components together to fabricate or repair products, such as machine parts, fabrication projects, and plant equipment, according to layouts, blueprints, or work orders, using brazing and a variety of arc and gas welding equipment.
Essential Functions
- Reviews Drawings and Travelers to ensure proper materials are being used and to understand the Scope of Work.
- Reviews all drawing for weld symbols and verify the material has been properly prepared prior to starting a project. If material needs additional preparations, prep as needed or notify a supervisor.
- Determines best setting up methods and techniques procedure in order to minimize part distortion.
- Positions, setups, and/or clamps components so that when they are tacked and welded the component will have the significant machine stock if final machining is required after fabrication.
- Welds metal components together to fabricate or repair products, such as machine parts, fabrication projects, and plant equipment, according to layouts, blueprints, or work orders, using brazing and a variety of arc and gas welding equipment.
- Assembles, tack-welds, and final-welds metallic frames and other component parts of machinery and equipment.
- Cuts, grinds, and fits pipe or plates as required in order to make the final assembly to the drawing tolerances and specifications.
- Repairs broken or cracked parts, fill holes, and increase the size of metal parts.
- Moves assembly to the storage area, using appropriate transport equipment.
- Welding examples: FCAW, GMAW, SMAW, GTAW, SAW, OXY- fuel cutting, abrasive cutting, chipping, grinding, fabrication, blueprint reading, climbing ladders, scaffolds, walking, lifting, carrying, reading, and communication.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Required:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- 3-5 years’ minimum experience in job-related position.
- Must be qualified to AWS Welding Standards
- Ability to work with all types of metal and using Mig, Tig, as appropriate and with minimal instructions and supervision.
Preferred:
- D1.1 and D1.6 knowledge preferred.
