AFTER SCHOOL COUNSELOR JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: After School Counselor, Mitchell County
FLSA Status: Part-time, between 16-20 hours per week
Reports to: Director of Youth Programs
Pay:$12.00
Counselors will have training on August 5th (9am-5pm)- August 9th (11am-4pm) August 12th (9am-4pm).
POSITION SUMMARY:
After School Counselors will be responsible for the daily supervision of after-school program participants in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade. S/he is responsible for assisting in the planning, developing, and implementations of all components and program activities in the after-school program. The Counselor guides the academic and social development of children, ensuring a safe, enriching, and healthy learning environment. Counselors use a variety of resources, provided by the Site Coordinator and Program Director, to introduce new skills throughout the execution of activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Implements curriculum within the established guidelines.
2. Designs and implements daily lesson/activity plans.
3. Supervises the children, classroom, and all activities.
4. Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
5. Conducts parent conferences, and maintains positive relationships and effective communication with parents. Engages parents as volunteers.
6. Maintains program site and equipment.
7. Maintains required program records.
8. Attends and participates in family events, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school diploma or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred, working towards a degree in: Education, Child Development, Psychology, or Social Work.
2. At least 18 years of age.
3. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
4. At least one year experience working with children in a developmental setting is required.
5. Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
6. Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
