Job Title: Assistant Child Care Teacher Williams YMCA of Avery County
Reports to: Child Care Director FLSA Status: Full Time
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the Childcare Director and consistent with the Christian mission and the policies and procedures set forth by the Williams YMCA of Avery County, the Assistant Child Care Teacher is responsible for the safety and wellbeing of all children participating in the program and assisting the Lead Teacher in daily activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The Child Care Part-Time/Substitute Teacher is responsible for:
1. Retaining a personal commitment to YMCA philosophy and the ability to implement values and education as role models
2. Planning and implementing weekly activity plans that fit children’s needs and provide appropriate balance and choices of activities
3. Assuring the safety, health, and welfare of the children
4. Assuring that children are accounted for at all times
5. Organizing and maintaining classroom activity areas, materials, supplies, and equipment in a responsible manner
6. Being responsible for the appearance and cleanliness of the YMCA and any area the children use
7. Keeping the director advised of equipment and materials that need to be repaired or replaced
8. Maintaining constant supervision of the children
9. Taking daily attendance and keeping all required reports pertaining to group
10. Building and maintaining effective communication lines with supervisor, staff, parents, and children
11. Understanding NC Child Daycare Requirements
12. Reporting to work promptly
13. Being well-groomed at all times and reporting to work properly dressed
14. Attending pre-employment and in-service training as required
15. Keeping the director informed of any classroom problems
16. Any other duties assigned by the Childcare Director or the Lead Teacher
Physical Requirements:
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
AND EITHER:
- NC Early Childhood Credential (earned by completion of EDU 111 and 112 or EDU 119 or EDU 3119 and meeting above criteria) OR One of the equivalency options listed below: 1. JW Model (completion of EDU 111 and 112 or EDU 119 or EDU 3119 but did not apply for and/or earn the NC Early Childhood Credential) or willing to attain
- Tested out of the Division of Child Development and Early Education NCECC standardized equivalency test prior to 1/1/08.
- Completed and hold a currently active nationally accredited credential certificate to include CDA, CCP and MACTE, AMS or AMI Montessori (upload a copy of the certificate).
- Completed a post-secondary two-year degree or higher in Early Childhood, Child Development, Human Growth & Development or Early Childhood Special Education from an accredited institution of higher education.
- Completed a post-secondary two-year degree or higher in any subject area with at least 6* sch in Early Childhood Education and/or Child Growth & Development from an accredited institution of higher education.
- Completed 12 sch (with or without a degree) in Early Childhood, Child Development, Human Growth & Development and/or Early Childhood Special Education programs with at least 3* sch in Child Growth & Development from an accredited institution of higher education.
- Awarded the DCDEE NC Early Childhood Equivalency Certificate {effective 3/17/2023}
- Completed and hold a currently active Level I or higher certification on the Early Care and Education Professional (ECE) scale issued by the NC Institute for Child Development Professionals.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Minimum of 2 years of professional child care experience (in a licensed setting preferred.)
2. Minimum of 18 years or older.
3. They should present themselves in a professional, caring manner and have excellent communication skills. They should also learn and understand the YMCA’s mission and best practices in order to help foster and ensure all aquatics programs have a mission driven atmosphere
4. Requirements within 90 days of hire include completion of: First Aid, CPR, current negative TB test, medical exam, fingerprint check, criminal records check.
5. Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications.
6. Must be able to pass drug test and background check and have clear driving record.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
· Children are required indoor and outdoor play time which may include: lifting, bending, cardio inclusive exercise and standing for long periods of time.
· Constant twisting, turning, kneeling, and stooping.
