This is a part-time hourly, grant funded position.

JOB SUMMARY
The Homeless Education facilitator (HEF) will support the goals of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act in WJCC Public Schools. The HEF removes educational, local, and state barriers for families experiencing homelessness by providing direct services to families, collaboration with outside agencies, and coordination and management of the summer camp program through James City County Parks and Recreation Services. This The full scope of services provided by the HEF include: assessment, intervention, consultation, education, advocacy, and data collection.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide case management for students/families identified under the McKinney-Vento Act.
- Assess family needs utilizing standardized instruments.
- Initiate team meetings with all school personnel and providers.
- Review and assess the case plans and progress towards goals for all families on caseload.
- Provide consultative services to staff and parents related to homelessness.
- Manage transportation agreements and monitor cancellation needs.
- Engage in community outreach activities.
- Coordinate and support the summer camp program, 2-3 hours/day during the summer.
- Promote collaboration and coordination of services among community agencies/providers.
- Develop and utilize data collection materials.
- Maintain complete and accurate records of student/family interactions.
- Prepare comprehensive reports.
- Coordinate referral process with community agencies.

- Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required)
- Bachelor’s degree in social work or other human services related field.
- Ability to interact with a variety of community service personnel.
- Ability to communicate effectively with parents, public agencies, and building personnel.
- Ability to plan and organize.
- Knowledge of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Act preferred.
- Previous experience working with families experiencing homelessness preferred.
- Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Performs duties under the supervision of the Supervisor for Student Services.
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Works in coordination with staff to provide student services. Works independently to plan caseload and follow-up. Must meet deadlines established by caseload. The individual works and interacts with families and children in school, home, and community environments. Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer terminal; to see and read a computer screen, and printer material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms and on the telephone; physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds.
