What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineer Assistant - Summer Intern position at Williamson County?
- Reporting directly to the County Engineer, responsible for various civil engineering planning, design and review for street and drainage improvements to also include Pollution Abatement Plans (WPAP) and Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SW3P), detailed hydrologic/hydraulic studies and subdivision plans, plats, construction plans and site development plans to ascertain compliance.
- Provides civil engineering designs for street and drainage improvements
- Inspects road and drainage construction
- Produces detailed engineering drawings and reports for the Pollution Abatement Plans (WPAP) and Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SW3P) to control potential pollution activities associated with street and drainage construction and/or improvements
- Produces detailed hydrologic/hydraulic studies that include flood plain analysis, detention pond and storm sewer design/analysis and culvert/bridge analysis
- Provides review of subdivision plans, plats, construction plans and site development plans to ascertain their compliance with the County's Subdivision Regulations
- Assists, and answers questions from, field crews and inspectors related to street and drainage construction activities
- Communicates with other county employees, external agencies and the general public.
- Readily complies with departmental and county-wide policies and procedures
- Understands and follows oral and written instructions
- Performs special duties as assigned
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 15 college credit hours
- Proficiency with various computer applications (e.g., MS Office Suite, including spreadsheets, databases, electronic timekeeping, etc.) and office equipment.
- Ability to type and enter data with sufficient speed and accuracy.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with co-workers, employees, and management in a pleasant, professional manner.
- Must have strong organizational skills and proven ability to maintain accurate, detailed records.
- Must be able to work under pressure in a high volume office, produce accurate work and meet established deadlines.
- Must be professional, dependable, resourceful and able to work independently.
- Must maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate's Degree in Engineering Technology, or currently working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a science-related field
- Roadway design and construction experience
- Ability to utilize MicroStation
