What are the responsibilities and job description for the Operator I - Road & Bridge position at Williamson County?
Reporting directly to a Foreman, responsible for performing County roadway maintenance. Level I of IV in Operators.
- Assists with the performance of roadway and right-of-way maintenance
- Operates 6-yard dump trucks
- Inspects and performs routine maintenance on equipment
- Assists with the set up and maintenance of traffic control signs and barricades in compliance with the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (TMUTCD)
- Performs basic computer skills including, but not limited to, checking email and electronic timekeeping
- Under close supervision, enters data into the roadway asset management system
- Provides assistance during emergency events (i.e. flooding, ice storm, etc.)
- Transports equipment, supplies and/or materials in light to medium trucks (6-yard dump trucks)
- Complies with departmental and county safety standards
- Communicates effectively with the public and other employees
- Attends all meetings and trainings

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Position involves stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, walking, standing, climbing, driving and lifting up to 100 pounds
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
- Indoor and outdoor work in all environments, including inclement weather
- Individuals may be exposed to heat, cold, loud noise, dust and hazardous chemicals
IRREGULAR HOURS
- Work outside of the normal office hours (Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) may be required
- Essential personnel for emergency situations; discretion of department director

- High school diploma or equivalent
- One year’s experience in crew-specific tasks and the operation of related equipment
- Working knowledge of specific job-related technology
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Required within one-hundred and eighty (180) days of employment
- Texas Class “A” CDL with Hazardous Materials and Tanker Endorsements
- First Aid and CPR
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT
Must furnish a working cell phone capable of receiving and sending phone calls and text messages
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate degree in a related field
- Knowledge of roadway construction
- Commercial Herbicide Applicator’s License
