What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Intern - OSSF position at Williamson County?
Performs engineering support duties including MS4 stormwater compliance documentation, MS4 compliance inspections, culvert and roadway design, review and analysis of engineering plans, GIS analysis, data entry, records research, database management, and document archiving under close supervision. This position is temporary with an expected duration of eight weeks.
- Creating documentation and compiling data for the MS4 program.
- MS4 Stormwater illicit discharge compliance inspections.
- ARC-GIS field data collection using GIS Collector App.
- Modify the County’s Website for public reporting.
- Maintenance and updating of a GIS database under close supervision.
- Creation of public education materials for the County’s Stormwater MS4 Program.
- Culvert design using Federal Highway Dept HDS-5 procedures
- Field reconnaissance for culvert design ad road design projects.
- Assist in processing expired OSSF applications in My Government Online.
- Assist in preparing OSSF maintenance projects for the online customer portal.
- Compile a list of commercial OSSF permits that require BOD sampling for tracking.
- Review of engineering plans under close supervision.
- Conducts management and quality assurance of database records under close supervision.
- Conducts records research under close supervision.
- Performs document archiving procedures and file management under close supervision.
- Assists in public information requests under close supervision.
- Performs other duties as assigned
ORGANIZATION RELATIONSHIPS:
- Reports directly to Director of Environmental Services.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Employee must be able to lift 30 lbs. and walk one mile without stopping
- Position involves sitting at a desk or other workstation, typing, filing, making copies, standing and communicating.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:
- Position involves working outside in all-weather conditions.

- Completed 30 semester hours of college courses. Must have 2 credit hours of laboratory sciences such as chemistry laboratory, physics laboratory or biology laboratory.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
- College course work in water treatment, wastewater engineering, fluid mechanics, microbiology, public health, organic chemistry or environmental sciences.
- Prior experience (employment, extracurricular activities, volunteer opportunities) working within a team or organization
- Prior experience (employment, extracurricular activities, volunteer opportunities) completing a detailed task over several weeks.
EMPLOYMENT TESTING:
