POSITIONS: Academic Recovery – 5th Marking Pd. Teaching Positions – In Person
WASD Secondary 7th-11th Grades
- WAHS – Secondary Teaching Certifications in English, Math, Sciences, Social Studies/History
- WAHS – 1 special education position (Cert 7-12, K-12)
- WAMS – 4-8 or 7-12 Teaching Certifications in English, Math, Science, Social Studies/History
- WAMS – 1 special education position (K-8, 7-12, K-12)
- Social Worker 1 position between WAMS and WAHS
- Counselor 1 position between WAMS and WAHS
- June 9 – June 27, 2025
Academic Recovery for Students
- Students currently failing CORE courses (ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies/History) and need an extended time period to elevate their current course grades without repeating the entire course.
- Current (24-25 school year) 7th - 11th grade students.
- Seniors who have not graduated in June 2025 may participate, if passing means graduation is attainable.
- Students will be able to improve up to, two failed core courses (cannot exceed more than two)
- Course names and structure will be determined by the administration, courses with similar content may be combined.
Student Grading
- Students committing to participate in the Fifth Marking Period will receive a failed course grade and not awarded credit on their end-of-year report card in June.
- The Academic Recovery Teacher will post the final grade for the 5th Marking Period course and determine whether credit is earned. A credit award will only occur upon successful completion of the three-week, 5th marking period course.
Teacher Expectations
- Teachers will design and deliver in-person review/preview lessons and assessments that will focus on high-priority standards and skills such as foundational reading/math skills, end-of-course requirements, and course prerequisites that are also attached to high-stakes exams such as the PSSA, Keystone, SAT, and college entrance expectations.
- Course content will be delivered through face-to-face instruction.
- Courses will not be based upon completing past incomplete assignments or tests. Students will receive in-person instruction and given new work and assignments.
- Students will be required complete assignments and assessments.
CERTIFICATION: Relevant PDE Certifications
START DATE: Dates as noted above June 9th – June 27th

Teacher Compensation:
- 3 weeks, 15 days of instruction
- Instructional Hourly Rate: $35.10 per hour
- Compensated hours per day 4 hours
- 60 hours = $2106. ( $525 = 3.5 days planning and preparation*) TOTAL: $2631
*1 day in person planning meeting will occur on 6/6 and ½ day grading finalization on 6/27 in PM.
*2 days curriculum and course preparation remote or in person
Teachers applying to the summer school posting may also apply for these positions, schedules will be adjusted to accommodate.
All student fees are waived and paid through grant funding. Because of this funding opportunity, student fees and teacher compensation are not connected.
The 2025 5th Marking Pd. compensation does not obligate the district to any future structure or compensation or create a past practice.
