Job Summary
The Williamstown Theatre Festival is seeking skilled and passionate Carpenters to join our team for the 2025 Season.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with designers, technical directors, and other production staff to ensure accurate implementation of set designs and timely completion of projects.
- Build, assemble, and install scenic elements, props, and stage components according to technical drawings and design specifications.
- Perform regular maintenance and repairs on scenic elements, props, and stage equipment to ensure safety and functionality throughout the production run.
- Maintain and organize carpentry tools, equipment, and workshop spaces, ensuring all resources are in good working condition and readily available for use.
- Prepare the stage and backstage areas before each performance, including sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping, and perform any post-show duties as identified by the production staff as assigned.
- Support running crews during technical rehearsals and performances, facilitating change overs and ensuring smooth execution of all stage operations as assigned.
- Work closely with other departments, such as sound, lighting, props and costumes, to ensure an integrated and cohesive process.
- Assist with the load-in and load-out of campus spaces, including offices and workspaces, while tracking equipment inventory and organizing off-season storage as assigned.
- Adhere to safe working practices that comply with festival safety protocols and align with facility protocols set forth by Williams College.

- Participate in end-of-season debrief meetings and document insights to improve the position's processes and enhance the production management department's effectiveness for the following season.
Qualifications
- No specific number of years of experience or minimum educational credentials required.
- Successful track record of handling a variety of productions simultaneously, while maintaining attention to detail and a commitment to artistic quality.
- Proficiency in technical drafting preferred, with expertise in Vectorworks or AutoCAD preferred.
- Understanding of theatrical construction techniques, including carpentry and rigging, as well as appropriate safety precautions and procedures.
- Proven interpersonal, and management skills, with the ability to work with diverse teams with a supportive and collaborative approach.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic production environment and adapt to changing priorities and timelines.
- Capable of working long hours while standing. Valid driver's license required.
