CLASSIFICATION:  Full-Time, Seasonal

STATUS:   Exempt

REPORTS TO:  Producer

SUPERVISES:  N/A

LOCATION:   Position may begin work remotely, depending on start date. Position requires relocating to Williamstown, MA from June - August, during which housing is provided.

COMPENSATION: $900-$1,100/week

HIRING TIMELINE: Applications to be accepted until position is filled, with a priority application deadline of March 24, 2025. Application review and interviews to be conducted starting the final week of March with an anticipated part-time start date late April/early May and a full-time start date of early June with arrival in Williamstown mid-month. Exact start date is flexible, depending on schedules/conflicts.


Job Summary

Williamstown Theatre Festival, renowned for its commitment to artistic excellence, is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to join our team as the Line Producer, Experience Design for the 2025 Season. This position offers an exciting opportunity for an individual to be integral to the producing of a full season’s breadth of programming, namely from the perspective of managing and implementing Experience Design for audiences, artists, and company members. The Line Producer, Experience Design is responsible for collaborating with all departments at the Festival to help produce experience design initiatives for the full 2025 summer season, around our full productions, our presented works, our installations/pop-ups, our new work reading series, workshops, and residencies. The Line Producer, Experience Design facilitates a process that ensures the stakeholders have the resources they need and projects are implemented on time and within the allotted budget. The position will begin on a part-time basis starting in the spring (April/May, TBD). This role would ideally be able to work hybrid in-person/remote for at least some of the pre-season period before relocating to Williamstown, MA for the summer months.

The ideal candidate is an individual with excellent project management and collaboration skills, who is energized by strategizing and supporting the needs of a team, and who is generative and creative in approach to ideation and implementation of project plans.


Primary Responsibilities and Expectations 

  • Responsible for collaborating with all departments to produce all Experience Design initiatives for the Festival’s 2025 summer season.
  • Partner with and support the Producer and Experience Design Consultant to ideate and facilitate Experience Design operations, including:
    • Making collaborator offers, as needed
    • Creating and maintaining project calendars, collaborator information forms, contract tracking sheets, budget tracking, etc.
    • Supporting the implementation process, including through survey, supervision, and concierge activities.
    • Managing the operations and approach to all Third Places
    • Communicating between audience, staff, and artists about Experience Design
    • Supporting the onboarding of artists, seasonal staff, and partners in relation to experience design at the Festival
    • Managing and working with teams across functions to ensure the integrity of the execution of the Experience Design and Engagement Plan as developed by the Creative & Experience team
  • Work closely with the Creative & Experience Assistant in carrying out initiatives across programming categories, especially those under the Creative Development team’s leadership. 
  • Support communication between Experience Design consultant and internal departments such as Marketing & Communications, Advancement, Audience Engagement, and Business Office.
  • Work in alignment with the season’s show teams (Line Producer, Production Manager, Company Manager/Associate Company Manager, and House Manager, etc.) to ensure successful implementation of all initiatives around programming, within venues, and within Festival’s budget and resources available.
  • Collaborate in a close partnership with the Marketing & Communications Manager and Audience Engagement Manager as the Experience Show Team
  • Review and copy edit any marketing materials, photography, programs, press releases, etc. on behalf of the producing department, especially in regard to where Experience Design is central. 
  • Assist in the training and mentorship of the seasonal Producing Assistant and the Creative & Experience Assistant, fostering a culture of continuous learning and skill development.
  • Collaborate with the Producer and Experience Design consultant to develop working schedules, meetings, visits and coverage during Experience Design initiative implementation.
  • Partake in season planning and debrief meetings and create documentation of notes that will better serve the position and departments next summer.

  • Adhere to all Festival safety protocols.
  • Assist in the load-in and load-out of campus spaces, including offices and workspaces, equipment counting, and off-season storage, as needed
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
  • Customarily and regularly direct the work of two or more other employees, and whose suggestions and recommendations as to the advancement, promotion, or any other change of status of other employees are given particular weight.
  • An essential function of this job is in-person work in Williamstown, MA.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Williamstown Theatre Festival does not require a specific number of years of experience or have a minimum for educational credentials. 
  • Demonstrated experience in producing theater and/or other live events with demonstrated success in executing the process for a variety of projects with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to artistic excellence. 
  • Knowledge of and/or desire to learn various facets of Experience Design, Audience Engagement, and Marketing & Communications 
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, with the flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and timelines
  • Strong organizational skills and self-motivation, capable of handling multiple projects and prioritizing appropriately.
  • Experience with budget management and tracking.
  • Clear, effective, and adaptable communication skills to communicate with artists, staff, and a variety of stakeholders.
  • The ability to work closely with a team, manage workload, communicate clearly and effectively about expectations and needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate issues and collaborate with others effectively to problem-solve or course correct appropriately.
  • Creative, analytical and process-oriented thinker capable of remaining flexible and adapting to changing priorities and timelines in a fast-paced and dynamic production environment.
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive information.

Working and Living in Williamstown

Williamstown Theatre Festival’s season takes place on the beautiful campus of Williams College in Williamstown, MA with backdrops of the Berkshire, Green, and Taconic mountain ranges. Williamstown, MA (estimated pop. 7,813) is located in Berkshire County (estimated pop. 128,657) in Western Massachusetts and is an hour’s drive from Albany, NY and 30 minutes from Pittsfield, MA. 


The Williams College campus and the 62’ Center for Theatre and Dance are within walking distance of Spring Street, which has several restaurants with dine-in and takeout options, a coffee shop, an ice cream shop, an independent movie theater, and several stores. The nearest grocery store is a 10-minute drive from campus and not within walking distance. Having a personal vehicle does provide more flexibility in grocery-shopping and expands dining and activities options. All seasonal staff are provided housing free of charge on campus at Williams College. Housing is dorm-style with private bedrooms and shared common areas, including bathroom and kitchen. Williams College housing is not air-conditioned. Weather ranges from evenings on the cooler side but can also be quite warm with temperatures in the 90s with high humidity.
