To organize, implement, and supervise the school library and/or LRC services in support of the instructional program, including the associative duties prescribed by the Principal.
Minimum Qualifications:
Performance of Duties:
1. Subject to administrative approval, the librarian will plan, organize and implement the library services to students and teachers, including the selection of books, materials, and equipment.
2. Prepare and implement the library budget on an annual basis, including the proper accounting and expenditure of funds.
3. Maintain an inventory of books, materials, and equipment and recommend purchase of additional items as necessary for the efficient operation of the library service.
4. Prepare reports for state and federal aid.
5. Receive all materials shipped to the school library and properly catalog them to appropriate use.
6. Coordinate library services by interacting with administrators, department chairpersons, teachers, and students in the development of a sound library program.
7. Supervise and evaluate the performance of all library staff, including clerks, aides and other persons working in the library.
8. Coordinate curriculum activities with the various departments of the school, including book selection, non-print media, and special programs.
9. Provide orientation to library services for staff and students.
10. Develop library procedures, which are appropriate for the efficient use of the library, but also include proper measures of recordkeeping and security.
11. Supervises the overall educational environment of the library including student activities and discipline.
12. Assist students and teachers with special projects and reports within the scope of library support service.
13. Provide professional resources for teachers in terms of staff development and self-improvement.
14. Represent the school library within the district by participating on various committees and providing a direct link to community library services.
15. Assist with in-service training of staff and orientation of teachers.
16. Assist students to become thoroughly familiar with the resources and facilities of the library.
17. Work closely with the Supervisor of Language Arts/Basic Skills in selecting books and materials related to the district reading program.
18. Be available for assistance to teachers in providing specific support to the various academic programs through reference search reading lists, and non-print media.
19. To encourage the use of the library as an integral part of the instructional program.
20. To perform other duties related to library service that are specified by the building principal or the Superintendent.
21. To expedite the rules and regulations of the school, the district, and the State of New Jersey regarding prescribed conduct for teachers, students, and other members of the school community.
22. To be responsible for the general condition of those physical areas under the direct jurisdiction of the librarian.
23. To be accountable, according to building procedures, for all those, materials and supplies which are provided for librarian's use to carry on the academic program.
24. To maintain a professional attitude in all professional relationships concerning school affairs, school regulations, school administration, as well as students and parents of the school community.
25. To further the cause of good human relations and human understanding by responding positively to the direct programs aimed at improving these areas.
26. To be responsive to the student in his/her developmental process by being available, willing, and understanding when dealing with the problems of the individual, where feasible.
27. To carry out explicitly the administrative directives of the school and the district in all matters pertaining to the school program.
28. To actively contribute to the planning and development of the discipline area and total curriculum by working cooperatively with the departmental team within the school.
29. To actively engage in continual professional growth by participation in workshops, conferences and in-service programs provided by the district that fall within the accepted practices of the negotiated contract.
30. Develop positive behavioral characteristics that lead to the highest form of human behavior control of self and sensitivity toward others.
