Job Responsibilities
Instructor for perinatal classes including childbirth, breastfeeding, postpartum care and baby care basics. Promotes healthy pregnancy, prepared childbirth and breastfeeding. Demonstrates strong communication skills with a strong understanding of adult learning principles and utilizes a variety of teaching techniques such as PowerPoint, lectures and physical demonstrations of breathing patterns and relaxation skills. Maintains and enhances knowledge base through literature reviews and attendance at conferences related to prenatal education, childbirth and breastfeeding. Assists in the development of class outlines and content to assure the information provided accurately reflects current practices. Prepares and maintains class records and reports. Performs other related work as assigned or required.
Qualifications
Nationally recognized certification in childbirth education (ICEA, Lamaze, or approved equivalent) OR -Registered Nurses with current licensure and L&D/OB experience.
Training/Continuing Education
All employees are required to attend hospital orientation followed by a department orientation pertaining to the position. Additional certifications through ICEA and continuing education (CEUs) are available and encouraged.
Job Specific Information
Applicants must be available to work 1 night per week and 2 Saturdays per month.
