Responsibilities :
Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing, the Charge Nurse provides nursing care to residents as prescribed by the physician and in accordance with standards of nursing practices and regulations; and supervises the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) staff in the delivery of direct resident care.
Essential Job Duties :
Prepare and review medical records and nurse’s motes and assess residents to evaluate their physical and emotional status; monitor resident activity and provide nursing care according to the physician’s orders, care plans, established standards and facility policies.Coordinate and assist or prepare for new admissions, transfers, and discharge of residents.Transcribe physicians’ telephone orders. Communicate with residents, family members, other interdisciplinary team members and management regarding resident status.Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the physician in accordance with nursing standards and facility policies.Sign, date and perform all charting and recordkeeping in accordance with established policies and procedures.Supervise and direct the CNA staff in the delivery of resident care and monitor their performance.Schedule CNA job assignments, set priorities, assist, coach and counsel, as necessary.Understand, comply with, and promote all rules regarding residents’ rights.Assist and participate in developing and implementing a written care plan for each individual resident that addresses the needs of the resident.Participate in service training; assist in implementing orientation programs and job skills training; maintain professional competence.Monitor environment and care practices of nursing personnel to ensure compliance with established safety, fire, disaster, infection control and all other departmental policies and procedures; ensure cleanliness and safety of work and treatment areas.Other duties as assigned.Requirements :
Must be a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) in good standing and currently licensed by the State.Must relate positively to residents and families and work cooperatively with other employees.Must be capable of maintaining regular attendance.Must be able to supervise other employees and work cooperatively with other employees.Physical and Sensory Requirements (with or without the aid of mechanical devices) : Walking, reaching, climbing, bending, lifting, grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing and pulling, ability to hear and respond to pages; ability to distinguish smells, tastes and temperatures, ability to read and write, ability to communicate both verbally and in writing with residents, families, personnel, vendors, and consultants; ability to remain calm under stress.We are an equal opportunity employer and prohibit discrimination / harassment without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.
