The Role
This Payroll Specialist is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll for our field and office staff, while maintaining compliance with relevant laws and regulations specific to the construction industry. This position reports to the Assistant Controller and offers a hybrid work arrangement upon completion of the training period.
What you will accomplish
- Process bi-weekly payroll for operations and support staff.
- Calculate and track various wage rates, including prevailing wage for government projects.
- Manage certified payroll reporting for public works projects.
- Track and apply job costing for accurate project billing and accounting.
- Maintain compliance with state and federal labor laws, including Davis-Bacon Act requirements.
- Reconcile timesheets with project management systems.
- Manage tax filings and year-end activities including W-2 preparation.
- Handle payroll inquiries from employees regarding wages, deductions, and benefits.
- Support HR with onboarding new employees and processing payroll changes.
- Perform regular reconciliations of employee benefits, including health, dental, vision, retirement plans, and other benefit programs. Ensure benefits deductions are accurately reflected in payroll and resolved discrepancies as needed.
- Assist with internal and external audits, ensuring that payroll records and benefits are in compliance with applicable laws.
What we would like you to have
- 3 years of payroll experience, construction industry experience preferred.
- Knowledge of construction payroll practices, including certified payroll and prevailing wage requirements.
- Strong mathematical aptitude and attention to detail.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information.
- Experience with payroll software (Paylocity, ADP, Bamboo, Sage, or similar).
- Knowledge of federal and state wage and hour laws.
