Job Overview
The Assistant Instructor plays a vital role in supporting the lead instructor in delivering high-quality educational experiences to students. This position is ideal for individuals passionate about education and child development. The position is 90% outdoors, and we open rain or shine; it is well suited for outdoor enthusiasts. The primary farming activities are fruit, vegetable, and microgreen production as well as tending the chickens.
Duties
- Assist the lead instructor in planning and implementing lesson plans that align with curriculum standards.
- Harvest seasonal fruits and vegetables, help students make a campfire for cooking.
- Weave in preschool academic content into the adventures of the outdoors.
- Monitor student progress and provide feedback to the lead instructor regarding student academic, physical, social, and emotional wellness.
- Tune into child-driven motivations to explore their world and build in knowledge.
- Promote child welfare by ensuring a safe and nurturing outdoor classroom atmosphere.
- Collaborate with other staff members to create an inclusive environment that meets the diverse needs of all students.
- Utilize Montessori methods and principles when applicable to enhance student learning experiences.
Skills
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with students, parents, and staff.
- Experience working with children in an educational setting, demonstrating patience and understanding of their developmental needs.
- Proficiency in classroom management techniques to maintain order and encourage positive behavior among students.
- Willingness to commit to outdoor living in the PNW from 9a-noon.
- Willingness to learn about farming/food production. (Prior knowledge preferred)
- Assess unstructured play: provide as much freedom as possible without any physical or emotional injury.
- Experience with Montessori methods is beneficial but not required.
