Responsibilities
•
The Infection Control Coordinator provides analysis, interpretation and reporting of hospital acquired infections (HAI); educating employees about infection prevention; and the development of health system policies and procedures to insure rigorous infection control standards that meet AAAHC, JCAHO, OSHA, Centers for Medicaid/Medicare Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other nationally organized agencies recommendations and requirements. Understands safety hazards and use of equipment to prevent damage or harm to personnel and patients

Plans, organizes, directs and monitors the education and training programs for all staff members
•
Collaborates and provides advisement to specific surgical areas regarding employee educational/training needs
•
Plans and conducts facility-wide new employee orientations, mandatory in services, reviews of nursing skills
•
Plans and maintains an infection control program designed to provide a safe, sanitary and comfortable environment
•
Serve as a knowledgeable and available resource on infection control practices and policies to patients, families, staff, and health system employees
•
Participate in continuing educational activities at the department, state, and national level to promote personal growth and maintain a current knowledge base commensurate with the latest research and scholarly knowledge
•
Infection Control Surveillance: tracking post-operative complications/infection, monthly reports to governing body on a regular basis, monitoring incident/variance reporting
•
Appropriately handles the disposal of biohazardous materials
•
Understands and performs proper technique of equipment in assigned work area and adheres to procedures, policies, and standards
•
Responsible for training new employees
•
Other duties as assigned
