Primary Function:
- The Assistant Director, Annual Fund at Wills Eye Foundation is responsible for managing the Annual Fund efforts to raise philanthropic funds from individuals who give $1 to $24,999 annually via targeted appeals, to increase the number of donors and dollars. The Assistant Director, in collaboration with the Chief Development Officer and Foundation colleagues, will implement an Annual Fund cultivation and solicitation strategy, managing the content development and logistics for campaigns and appeals to active, lapsed, and potential donors through mail, digital channels, and grateful patient acquisition campaigns. A primary objective of the Annual Fund program is to develop a comprehensive donor pipeline, moving donors towards leadership, major, principal, and planned giving.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for timely execution of solicitation appeals through mail, email, online giving, social media, etc., including but not limited to:

- Employee giving
- Grateful patient acquisition
- Follows the established solicitation calendar for the year, ensuring adherence to deadlines for list requests and reviews, print deadlines, content creation, mail dates, and email solicitations. Establish positive working relationships with all vendors related to design, mailing, and production.
- Proactively source and develop storylines and key messages for each appeal. Write/edit compelling appeals (print and digital) that encourage current, prospective, and lapsed donors to give philanthropic donations to the Wills Eye Foundation.
- Leads the cultivation and solicitation of the 1832 Society (donors of $1,832 annually) by creating targeted messaging in appeals to leverage leadership-level giving and building a portfolio of leadership-level donors.
- Identify potential leadership giving, major giving, and planned giving prospects through analysis of giving behaviors and patterns, and collaborate with colleagues in major and planned gifts for follow up strategy.
- Works with vendors to design, produce, and distribute all annual fund appeal collateral materials, including, but not limited to, the appeal letter, brochure, website, elevator poster, envelopes, response devices, etc. Ensures timely completion of projects and stays within a defined budget.
- Collaborates with the Development Database Manager and Director of Development Operations to establish solicitation parameters and schedule to have mailing lists pulled from the patient and Raisers? Edge databases for solicitations and reviews with Development department colleagues.
- Manages the Wills Eye Hospital fund budget and tracks expenses to maximize cost efficiencies.
- Establishes reporting and metrics to monitor progress and set goals for the program based on past/current performance resulting in increased revenue and participation year over year.
