The Wilmette Park District offers Summer Short-term staff the following benefits: Individual Seasonal Beach and Pool Pass, One (1) parking decal for Gillson Beach (over 16 years of age only), Individual Center Fitness Club Membership for June – August the current year of employment.
Job Summary: The Summer Camp Basketball Coach will supervise and provide instruction to youth participants with various ability levels, adapt coaching as necessary, maintain control of the class, and promote good sportsmanship at all times. Thorough knowledge of sports curriculum is required to ensure programs run efficiently and effectively. The Summer Camp Coach is responsible for the overall success of their camp programs and for ensuring the safety and well-being of all campers and staff during the summer camp season while ensuring that all programs and services are delivered according to the Wilmette Park District personnel policy.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Lead youth participants in a variety of drills, skills, and games to develop skills in basketball

Create a safe, supportive, interactive, and engaging environment for youth

Assist in the setup and clean-up of program supplies and equipment and keep the facility, supplies, and equipment clean after each use

Establish constructive relationships and interact as a positive role model for youth
-
Positively interact with youth, parents/guardians, and other team members to create a respectful, warm, supportive environment
-
Possess enthusiasm and drive with a desire to accomplish goals and objectives
-
Maintain accurate attendance, instructions, and other records as necessary
-
Communicate with other Park District staff, supervisors, and team leaders as needed
-
Perform other related duties as assigned based on agency needs
-
Actively contribute to the Park District's sustainability goals
Safety Responsibilities:
-
Actively support the safety program that will effectively control and reduce accidents
-
Obey all Park District and departmental safety rules, regulations, and procedures established by the Wilmette Park District safety program that are pertinent to the activities conducted at the facility and property

Promptly report all unsafe actions, practices, or conditions to the immediate supervisor
-
Attend and participate in required safety training
-
Review all accident and incident reports that occur under the area of responsibility and send them to the Human Resources/Risk Management division

Responsible for administering minor first aid if needed
-
Monitor the learn/play environment for safety hazards
-
Maintain safety of campers at all times, including pool, bus, and field trips
Required Skills/Abilities (Technology, Mathematical, Language):

Ability to maintain self-control and composure in high-stress and/or difficult situations

Ability to supervise and lead daily sports activities for an individual or group

Must be able to project across a large area with clear and concise language

Excellent customer service and listening skills

Education and/or Experience:

Must be at least 18 years of age or older

Must have at least 1 year of experience in coaching or playing a specific sport

Experience teaching children is preferred
