What are the responsibilities and job description for the High School Science Teacher position at Wilmington Christian Academy?
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES :
The science teacher is responsible to the High School principal for the instruction of the students placed in his classroom.
The science teacher will teach the subjects as outlined in the academic manual.
He / she must maintain information as to the academic, spiritual, and social development of each of his students.
He / she should accomplish the educational goals established by the school administration through the use of instructional aids, as well as methods and materials that will provide for creative, interesting, and enthusiastic teaching.
QUALIFICATIONS :
The teacher must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
The teacher should be a spiritually discerning Christian who has a reputation that is blameless.
The teacher should endeavor to be an example of Christ to his students.
The teacher should be a leader by encouraging his students to be a part of a local Bible-believing church ministry.
The teacher should be able to communicate effectively, work efficiently, and organize appropriately.
The teacher must be able to deal with sensitive issues in a mature and confidential manner.
The teacher must have the ability to confront and deal appropriately with disciplinary issues involving students.
The teacher must be able to implement the approved curriculum and to make corrections in teaching method when corrected by the administration.
The teacher must be able to communicate school policy and educational ideas accurately to parents and students.
The teacher must hold at least a bachelor's degree in elementary education.
SPECIFIC DUTIES :
Ensure that adequate preparations have been made to accomplish goals and objectives established for the grade level assigned
Plan broadly through the use of course scope and sequence and weekly lesson plans
Maintain adequate records of attendance and grades to meet the demands of the State, the requests of the administration, and the teacher's own need for knowledge of student progress
Make homework assignments or projects work sufficiently in advance of the due date so that the student will learn personal responsibility, the joy of self-study, and the confidence in being sufficiently informed to handle the work at his grade level
Attend and participate in scheduled chapels, general faculty meetings, conferences, elementary programs, and in-service programs
Request instructional aids and materials for classroom use
Plan through approved channels the use of field trips, guest lecturers, and other media for creative and interesting teaching
Take advantage of those opportunities that will improve professional development by reading within and without one's own area of teaching
Further improve professional development through participation in continuing education seminars and graduate degree programs
Assist the administration by performing non-teaching supervisory duties
Provide the appropriate classroom environment through the use of bulletin boards and other visual aids
Keep proper discipline in the classroom for an appropriate teaching environment
Keep proper discipline on the campus in order to promote good interpersonal relations
Be available to counsel students regarding both academic and spiritual matters
Report any significant academic, behavioral, or spiritual concerns to the elementary principal
Provide for the safety and well-being of the students by recognizing potential dangers and by giving very close personal supervision
Guarantee the safety of students by never leaving the students unsupervised in the classroom or on the playground
Attend weekly planning meetings as required by the supervisor
Attend regularly scheduled parent / teacher fellowship meetings, faculty meetings, and other meetings as assigned
Communicate effectively and regularly with parents
Conduct private conferences with parents concerning the progress and growth of their children
Clean and maintain classroom
Enhance the curriculum where needed
Perform any other duties as assigned by the elementary principal and / or the administrator
