Wilmington College (WC) is a private, career-oriented liberal arts institution located in southwest Ohio, affiliated with the Religious Society of Friends also known as the Quakers. Our main campus is in southwest Ohio.
The Criminal Justice Department invites applications for a full-time (9-month), tenure-track Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice to begin in August of 2024. We are seeking candidates who will work collegially and effectively with faculty, students, staff, administrative colleagues, alumni, and professional communities served by the Social Science Area. The Criminal Justice major is among the most popular at the College and is the largest major within the Social Science Area, which offers majors in Applied Social Science, Criminal Justice, Political Science, Psychology, Public Health, and Social Work plus minors in Criminal Justice, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology.
The successful candidate will :
teach a variety of undergraduate courses in Criminal Justice (e.g., Introduction to Criminal Justice; Police, Law, and Society; Juvenile Justice, Corrections, Forensic Psychology, Criminal Law and Investigation)
supervise undergraduate capstone projects and internships;
engage in academic advising of students;
support student recruitment efforts;
collaborate with colleagues to maintain the rigor of the program while incorporating continuous program improvement;
participate fully in program assessment;
engage in scholarly activity;
provide service to the department, the college, the community and the profession; and
complete other duties as assigned.
Preferred requirements include : While not all applicants may meet all preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following :
terminal degree (e.g., Ph.D.) in criminal justice, criminology, sociology, or a justice-related discipline from a regionally accredited institution is preferred, but applicants who are ABD / in-process will be considered;
evidence of ability and commitment toward diversity, equity, social justice, and inclusion; and
evidence of excellent interpersonal communication skills.
Desired characteristics include :
a specialization related to social justice, conflict resolution, or diversity;
a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching in a career-oriented liberal arts setting;
readiness for college service, including academic advising and building the program in collaboration with the Social Science Area;
experience with building partnerships with members of [local] law enforcement, legal, and social justice communities.
