Wilson & Company, Inc., Engineers & Architects, a national multi-disciplined engineering and architecture consulting firm, is currently seeking a full-time Project Biologist to join our growing team. This individual will work with a team of environmental professionals from across the company to deliver quality analysis and documentation supporting our federal, state, local, and tribal clients under the Clean Water Act (CWA), the Endangered Species Act (ESA), the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and other applicable federal and state regulations for environmental resource management. This position is located in Loveland, CO.

This position is responsible for completing fieldwork, evaluating potential environmental impacts and mitigation requirements, and writing technical reports for biological resources on a variety of transportation, railroad, land development, and stormwater/wastewater projects. Biological resources include, but are not limited to, wetland delineation and mitigation, threatened and endangered species, wildlife, vegetation, noxious weeds, and environmental permitting. Wilson & Company intends to provide experience and training to progressively achieve larger roles and responsibilities for the hired individual. Strong writing skills are required and experience with GIS is preferred. For the right candidate, this position has the potential to provide rapid growth.

This position may also serve as task manager supporting NEPA Project Managers in successful execution of deliverables, which includes marketing, scope and fee developments, and management of task schedules and budgets. Coordination with clients and/or resource agencies is key to success and, therefore, strong communication skills are required. All Wilson & Company environmental staff work collaboratively with engineering professionals in a variety of disciplines across the firm to meet project goals, and with other key staff to build relationships both locally and in all states where Wilson & Company is conducting environmental project work.

Essential Job Functions

  • Provide technical environmental resource expertise for biological resources (listed in Job Description above).
  • Conduct fieldwork as it relates to project needs, includes travel throughout Colorado and out-of-state travel to support a national environmental practice.
  • Prepare biological resource reports, including Technical Memos, Biological Assessments, and Biological Evaluations.
  • Consult with jurisdictional and regulatory agencies and other stakeholders.
  • Additional technical environmental resource expertise in one or more of the following disciplines will also be considered: hazardous materials; air quality; noise; water quality; historic and/or cultural resources; Section 4(f) assessments.
  • Collaborate on the preparation of environmental and NEPA documentation, in part or in whole, including resource-specific technical reports, EIDs, CEs, EAs, and EISs.
  • Serve as task manager for environmental/NEPA projects in Colorado and firmwide; coordinate with and support others for overall project performance and deliver projects to clients on schedule and on budget.
  • Support the national environmental program through marketing, proposal preparation, and environmental analysis and documentation.
  • Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with engineering professionals in a variety of disciplines across Wilson & Company to meet project goals, and other key staff to build client relationships in the states where Wilson & Company is conducting environmental project work.

Required Skills And Experience

  • Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biology, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Planning or similar discipline. Advanced degrees will be given due attention.
  • 6 months of experience conducting biological resources analysis/investigation, T&E assessments, wetland delineations, and permitting with the Arid West, Western Mountain, Great Plains, and/or Midwest Supplements.
  • 6 months of experience preparing biological resources documentation, T&E and wetland delineation reports, Section 404 permits, and mitigation plans.
  • T&E assessment and wetland delineation field skills and methodology, GPS data collection, and ArcGIS proficiency.
  • Ability to identify wetlands and jurisdictional waters of the United States.
  • Proven ability to work on a team of professionals to accomplish project and program goals.
  • Task management skills with proven ability to complete work on schedule and within budget.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in software including the Microsoft suite of programs and ArcGIS.

Preferred Skills And Experience

  • 1 years of experience conducting biological resources analysis/investigation, T&E assessments, wetland delineations, and permitting with the Arid West, Western Mountain, Great Plains, and/or Midwest Supplements.
  • 1 years of experience preparing biological resources documentation, T&E and wetland delineation reports, Section 404 permits, and mitigation plans.
  • Professional certifications, specifically Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) or ability to qualify as PWS.
  • Environmental project/task management experience for NEPA and other environmental projects at the federal, state, local and tribal level.
  • Experience in identification of flora and fauna and special status species’ habitat.
  • Ability to obtain USFWS permits for survey of special status species in Colorado.
  • Experience coordinating with environmental resource and regulatory agencies in Colorado.
  • Technical writing skills with experience authoring NEPA documents.

Annual Salary Range or Hourly Rate: $20.00 – $28.00 (Depending on Experience)
