Emergency Room Nurse Responsibilities & Duties
- Perform triage and prioritize patient care based on severity
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians
- Monitor patient vital signs and document medical information
- Collaborate with doctors, specialists, and healthcare team members
- Provide wound care and emergency medical interventions
- Prepare patients for surgeries, procedures, and diagnostic tests
- Educate patients and their families about medical conditions and treatments
- Maintain a sterile and safe working environment
- Respond to life-saving situations using nursing standards and protocols
- Assist in the management of patient admissions and discharges
- Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and their families
- Conduct ongoing assessments and reassessments of patient conditions
- Ensure accurate and detailed patient records and reports
- Perform diagnostic tests, such as EKGs and blood draws
- Handle administrative tasks, including ordering supplies and maintaining equipment
Emergency Room Nurse Qualifications & Skills
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
- Triage nurse training
- Experience in a high-volume emergency room
- Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights and weekends
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems
- Experience with critical care or trauma nursing
- Familiarity with hospital policies and procedures
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or equivalent
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Minimum of 1-2 years of nursing experience
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Ability to handle high-stress situations
