Principal (Elementary)

 

JOB GOAL                              

Position is responsible for the daily operation and administration of an assigned elementary school and shall lead by establishing a culture for continuous improvement; focus all efforts to promote student achievement, advancement, and youth development; develop staff to promote employee expertise; and, monitor by implementing a system to determine performance and progress.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Holds a valid Tennessee teacher's license with appropriate administrative endorsement, has a minimum of a master's degree, has strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills, and meets health and physical requirements.

SCHEDULE                   260 Day

 

SALARY                       

Salary is determined by the highest degree earned and years of experience on the Wilson County Board of Education 2022-2023 Salary Schedule for Educators, plus a $15,000 stipend for elementary school principals.   

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Supervises the operation and management of personnel and facilities;
  • Assumes administrative responsibility and instructional leadership for the planning, management, operation, and evaluation of the educational program;
  • Submits recommendations to the superintendent regarding the appointment, assignment, promotion, transfer, and dismissal of all personnel;
  • Keeps the superintendent and his/her assistants continually informed regarding the conditions of the school and its activities;
  • Assumes responsibility for maintaining good public relations with the community and using the community resources to enrich the learning program;
  • Evaluates teachers and other personnel as outlined in state law, Minimum Rules and Regulations, and board policies;
  • Assumes responsibility for the implementation of curriculum guides for each grade level/subject;
  • Oversees the health and safety of students;
  • Attends training sessions and workshops to update information;
  • Attends work regularly and on-time;
  • Ensures the proper care and accounting of all equipment, textbooks, and supplies assigned to the school;
  • Assumes responsibility for student teachers and gives approval prior to a student teacher assuming duties;
  • Prepares and maintains records, reports, and inventories, as necessary;
  • Supervises substitute teachers;
  • Reports to the superintendent and his/her designee the names of all students on the list furnished to him/her who have not appeared for enrollment;
  • Administers the code of discipline and behavior within the school;
  • Ensures compliance with all state and local regulations related to student attendance;
  • Oversees school finances and ensures compliance with appropriate state and local guidelines and regulations;
  • Administers the athletic program in accordance with the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association, if appropriate;
  • Observes all other rules and regulations relative to the operation of the schools as established by law and as contained in the Rules, Regulations, and Minimum Standards of the State Board of Education;
  • Is familiar with and ensures appropriate implementation of all board policies; and
  • Assumes other duties as assigned.

  • Spatial:  The ability to comprehend forms in space and understand relationships of plane and solid objects.
  • Manual Dexterity: The ability to move the hands easily and manipulate small objects with the fingers rapidly and accurately.
  • Color Discrimination: The ability to perceive or to recognize similarities or differences in colors or shades or other values of the same color.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This job may require lifting or carrying of objects that exceed fifty (50) pounds, with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Other physical demands that may be required are as follows: pushing and/or pulling, stooping and/or kneeling, reaching and/or handling, talking, hearing, and seeing.
