Terms of Employment : Permanent, 10 Month Position
Nature of Work
A teacher assistant provides support to a lead teacher in charge of a classroom. Teacher assistants reinforce lessons by tutoring individual students and / or working with small groups. Additionally, teacher assistants will drive a bus when called upon to do so.
Qualifications and Licensure
- Must hold an Associate's Degree or have at least 48 semester hours of college credits
- Must possess and maintain a current North Carolina driver's license
- Must obtain and maintain a CDL bus license and drive a bus when called upon to do so
Duties and Responsibilities
Cooperates in developing procedures for the classroom.Assists in the preparation of materials.Maintains awareness of goals and objectives of the supervising teacherAssists in implementing the planned program.Provides information to teacher (s) concerning program evaluation.Participates in and facilitates activities to improve effectiveness of the total school program.Carries out student supervisory duties in a prompt and responsible manner to ensure a safe and healthful environment.Collects and records money according to established procedures.Maintains classroom files and records in accordance with applicable rules, laws, and regulationsPerforms clerical duties as assigned by the teacher (s).Exhibits positive behavior toward children, parents, staff and administratorsRepresents the need of school and children to parents and the community in a positive manner.Conducts himself / herself as a positive role model in the school and community.Assists students with understanding, interpreting and adhering to laws, rules, and regulations.Shares the responsibility for school cleanliness and neatness.Assists in developing good housekeeping skills and regard for the environment both inside and outside the classroom.Obtains and maintains CDL bus license.Drives a bus when called upon to do so.Maintains bus route scheduleSupervises students riding the busMaintains discipline and reports undisciplined students to school administration.Discharge students only at authorized stops and transport only authorized students.Complies with local traffic regulations and observes all mandatory safety regulations.Reports delays or accidents.Cleans the interior of the bus.Performs other duties as assigned.Physical Requirements (if applicable)
