TITLE: SPEECH AND LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST
PREFERRED QUALFICATIONS:
- Eligible for CT License in Speech Pathology
- Holds and maintains CT Teaching Certification
REPORTS TO: Building Principal(s)
JOB GOAL: To provide speech and language services to students with communication, hearing, language and speech disorders that interfere with their ability to access the curriculum.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate as a member of the Planning and Placement Team to evaluate speech, language and communication skills and help determine eligibility for special education and mandated related services.
- Provide an appropriate individualized education program of speech, language, and hearing services to students in the following categories of communication disorders or delays:
A)Speech Production
Articulation
Fluency
Voice
B)Language
Receptive
Expressive
C)Hearing Impairment
D)Auditory Processing
- Review individualized educational programs and progress for all students currently receiving mandated speech, language, and/or hearing services.
- Conduct triennial speech and language evaluations as recommended by the Planning and Placement Team
- Maintain necessary records and files for each student referred for services, including regular on-going progress reports.
- Serve as Case Manager when assigned:
Serve as key liaison to larger community of learners and families for students on caseload.
- Communicate pertinent information about teaching and learning for individual students to other teachers and service providers.
- Maintains communication to parents and colleagues over time as needed to support and promote student services in the regular program.
- (a) Request assistance from (b) make referrals to related services staff, e.g., counseling, psychology, speech/language, etc., as needed.
Assist in the implementation of behavior management plans for students whose needs extend to this domain.
Maintain a schedule of annual reviews and triennial (re-evaluation) reviews consistent with law and district practice.
Plan and schedule Planning and Placement Team Meetings for assigned students as needed to comply with legal and district policy requirements.
Coordinate meetings with staff and/or parents as needed to share information
regarding students’ programs and progress
Ensure that all required paperwork is distributed to parents.
Ensure all paperwork for student transportation needs is completed in a timely fashion
Assist in the transition process of students from building to building and/or program to progra
Determine if additional training of staff is required and assure implementation of same
- Provide consultative and educational services to parents, staff, and other individuals by providing in-service workshops, forming parent discussion groups, and sharing information related to the role of speech, language, and hearing skills in the learning process.
- Confer with parents to improve students’ speech, language, and hearing skills in school and at home.
- Effectively utilize information provided by a child’s parents, teachers, staff members (i.e. school psychologist, social worker, guidance counselor, reading specialist, school nurse), physicians, school records, and other sources in planning, implementing, and evaluating individualized educational programs.
- Accept additional assignments in the role of speech-language pathologist as directed by the Director of Special Services and/or the building principal.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 187 day position
