Position Summary:

The VP, Investment Accounting leads and manages all aspects of reporting of the company’s investment accounting for multiple entities on a US Statutory and GAAP basis across various asset classes.

Role Responsibilities:
  • Leadership:
    • Lead the investment accounting team and provide direction that aligns with the company’s goals and objectives
    • Drive investment analyses to provide insights to the senior team and the board of directors
    • Identify and drive improvements in investment accounting processes and procedures
    • Mentor and develop team members to achieve functional/departmental/company goals and foster positive and engaged work environment
  • Outsourced Provider Management:
    • Review and evaluate current outsourced investment accounting provider to determine areas for improvement on an immediate and long-term basis
    • Establish and manage executive relationships with outsourced investment accounting provider
    • Review and strengthen expectations for deliverables and dependencies of outsourced provider to meet or exceed internal requirements and ensure alignment of deadlines
    • Improve issue escalation procedures and strengthen proactive controls
    • Identify gaps in current reporting and analysis and develop and implement plans to address
    • Strengthen procedures and processes for onboarding new transactions
  • Financial Reporting:
    • Lead and manage the function’s activities, including, but not limited to:
      • Quality and timely delivery of accounting and reporting, disclosures, and analysis to internal and external stakeholders
      • Analyze and affirm trade details and resolve issues related to trade activity, portfolio transfers, wire transfers, corporate actions, bank loans, mortgage loans, and limited partnerships
    • Ensure adherence with statutory and GAAP standards for accounting and reporting of the company’s investments
    • Respond to requests from regulators, rating agencies, and other external and internal parties
    • Collaborate with other functional areas, including the Business Development Team on investment accounting related matters
    • Lead the integration of new assets from new transactions, new purchases, and asset transfers for investment accounting
    • Drive continuous improvement in reporting processes and systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy

Basic Qualifications:
  • In-depth knowledge of US statutory and GAAP investment accounting principles, investment products, and regulatory frameworks applicable to insurance companies
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Strong ability to analyze and improve business processes
  • Effective and timely decision-making capabilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels and across a variety of disciplines
  • Proven ability to lead teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience managing outsourced/third party provider relationships

Required Education / Certifications:
  • B.S. or B.A. in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 10 years of investment accounting experience
  • 5 years of leadership a plus

Base salary/hourly rate range for this position in Connecticut is between $165,000 and $ 240,000 Please note that specific compensation decisions are based upon a variety of job-related factors as permitted by law, including geographic location, credentials, skills, education, training, and experience.

Base salary is just one component of Wilton Re’s total compensation package for employees. Additional compensation includes annual performance-based bonus, 401K with employer contribution, and profit-sharing program. Employee may also be eligible for long-term incentives (equity). All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
