RECEPTIONIST SUMMARY:
Promotes a professional practice image by efficiently performing a variety of business and clerical related tasks designed to facilitate the smooth flow of patients and work through the organization. The Medical Receptionist addresses the needs of patient’s checking in and out of the clinic in a prompt and courteous manner, manages telephone calls, schedules appointments, collect payments and coinsurance. The Medical Receptionist also manages the Epic work queue folders, scheduling folders, and in-basket messages.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Cheerfully greets patients and visitors in a prompt and pleasant manner to determine their needs and responds accordingly.
- Updates patient’s biographical and insurance information as well as meaningful use requirements.
- Review patient accounts and attempts to collect unpaid balances, copayments and coinsurances.
- Schedules patient’s appointments, tests and referrals according to office policy.
- Answers telephone and acts as a patient relations representative for the practice by taking care of the needs of the caller within the scope of his/her knowledge and the practices policies.
- Receives and processes incoming information via email, fax, mail and phone, adhering to HIPAA regulations at all times.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITES:
- Serves as a back-up to the front desk and scheduling staff.
- Maintain schedules for specific providers assigned. (Buddy System)
- Maintains a neat, orderly and clean front desk area and waiting room.
- Communicates any problems, needs or feedback to the Front Office Manager in a timely fashion.
- Performs other tasks as required.
Requirements
REQUIREMENTS:
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Comfort with use of computer, typing, telephone, fax machine and other basic office systems.
- Preferred basic knowledge of medical terms and abbreviations.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Preferred at least one year of medical office, clinic or other healthcare setting experience.
- Physical lifting up to 15 lbs.
