Overview
Job Summary
This position is responsible for the operation of the Bulk Foods Department, supervision and training of department personnel, inventory and ordering of merchandise and ensuring customer service and product quality, freshness and selection as well as other duties.
Typical Duties And Responsibilities
- Supervises employees by motivating, training, participating in the hiring of personnel, monitoring employee performance, recommending personnel action (i.e. hiring, firing, layoff, disciplinary action, scheduling personnel according to coverage needs) maintaining a safe and secure work environment etc
- Maintains and encourages an atmosphere of fast, friendly courteous customer service.
- Performs customer relation duties and engages in suggestive selling techniques.
- Meets departmental projected sales and gross margin objectives.
- Ensures adequate product quantity, quality and freshness by checking, receiving and controlling inventory, preventing the sale of out-dated products, computing gross profit, processing administrative paperwork by computer and maintaining accurate department records.
- Changes ends and promotion walls.
- Arranges seasonal displays for promotionals.
- Performs all job duties and responsibilities with honesty and integrity.
- Supervises, motivates, trains and participates in the hiring of personnel.
- Performs other duties as assigned or needed.
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- As a bulk foods clerk, Lead Clerk, MIT or equivalent to understand the Bulk Foods department procedures.
- Applying strong analytical and problem-solving skills with close attention to detail in order to effectively monitor progress and complete assignments, performing all duties with efficiency and accuracy.
- Demonstrating initiative and self-direction to perform a variety of simultaneous skills (multi-tasking).
- Performing basic math (add, subtract, multiply and divide) and compute weights and measures.
- Utilizing excellent verbal, written and inter-personal communication skills, establishing and maintaining a good rapport with co-workers, supervisors, buyers, etc.
- Applying basic knowledge of Microsoft computer operating systems in a work setting.
- Conduct visual inspections and read reports, manuals etc.
- Learn taste, content and perishability of products, safety and sanitation procedures and department policies.
- Work around machinery emitting heat and cold conditions.
- Forecast accurately according to demand, past sales, expectations etc.
- Frequently bend, repetitively use hands, stand, walk and lift up to approximately 50 lbs.
- Perform duties with mental alertness involving potential hazards with respect to related procedures, equipment (e.g. knives) and work aides.
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Food Handlers Certification (per state laws).
- Office machines (computer terminal, copier/scanner, 10-key, fax machine, telephone, etc)
- Operates all bulk foods equipment.
