Overview:
Job Summary
Provide guidance and support in food safety policy and implementation in compliance with Federal, State and local regulatory requirements, through interaction with corporate, retail store, and warehousing/transportation department teams. Perform related work.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
- Approves suppliers through the review of due diligence documentation.
- Ensures compliance with local, state and Federal requirements.
- Applies continuous improvement processes to enhance work flow, improve job skills and individual knowledge of food safety.
- Works through TraceGains network for supplier approval and documentation requests and review.
- Completes store and supplier surveys to ensure compliance.
- Assists in the implementation of components of the company’s food safety program.
- Solves food safety problems and implements improvements.
- Reports and provides guidance with supplier issues in stores and DC’s.
- Facilitates communication of food safety information to employees and customers.
- Responds to and provides corrective actions related to deficiencies.
- Collaborates on a daily basis with other members of the corporate food safety department to discuss and analyze food safety trends and findings, maintaining a standardized approach to food safety audits in order to ensure food safety programs are executed to the highest standards.
- Performs other duties as needed.
Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience
Experience:
- At least 6 months working with food safety programs and procedures.
- At least 6 months years of working with food safety regulations within the food/retail industry or with a regulatory agency.
- Demonstrating strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.) software.
- Demonstrating knowledge and understanding of local, state and federal safety regulations (FDA, GRPs, USDA, GAPs, etc.).
- At least 6 months reviewing 3rd party audits.
- Exhibiting strong ability to analyze data, make judgments and develop reports.
Ability to:
- Work independently with minimal supervision while remaining aligned with corporate food safety programs and goals.
- Influence positive change behavior without direct authority.
- Establish proactive, collaborative working relationships with organizational leadership as well as public health officials.
- Be extremely self-motivated, take initiative and drive results.
- Multi-task and work in a fast-paced, multiple-priority environment.
- Be highly organized and detail oriented.
- Develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with fellow employees and outside contacts, user groups and vendors.
- Write and speak clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication settings.
- Respectfully challenge standard practices to find a better way to get things done.
- Travel up to 25% of the time.
- Respond to calls on urgent matters involving food safety including after business hours, on weekends and holidays.
Additional Requirements:
- Acceptable Department of Motor Vehicles driving record
Preferred Education, Experience and/or Credentials:
- Working knowledge of TraceGains
- Working knowledge of AS400
- Knowledge of the retail grocery industry and corresponding products.
