POSITION/TITLE: Machine Shop Supervisor

WORK LOCATION: Tolleson, AZ Plant

POSITION REPORTS TO: Director of Engineering

WORK TYPE: ON SITE

Job Summary

As the Machine Shop Supervisor, you will be responsible for overseeing daily machining operations, ensuring efficiency, quality, and safety in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You will schedule production, manage a team of machinists, maintain equipment, and optimize CNC and manual machining processes to meet company objectives. In this role, you will apply your technical expertise in machining, leadership skills, and commitment to quality and safety standards. You will also collaborate with engineers, project managers, and external vendors to support seamless production and continuous improvement.

Essential Job Functions

  • Production Planning & Scheduling: Coordinate and prioritize machine shop operations to meet corporate deadlines while ensuring timely and cost-effective completion of work.
  • Team Leadership & Safety Compliance: Supervise and support machinists, fostering a culture of safety, efficiency, quality and adherence to company policies and procedures.
  • Training & Skill Development: Provide hands-on training to machinists on equipment operation, maintenance, and best practices to enhance skill levels and productivity.
  • Inventory & Material Management: Monitor inventory levels and order necessary materials to maintain smooth production flow.
  • Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Oversee routine machine maintenance and repair processes to minimize downtime and ensure peak operational efficiency.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure all manufactured parts meet engineering specifications and quality standards through precise inspections and testing.
  • Vendor & Service Provider Management: Maintain relationships with external machining service providers, ensuring quality and cost-effective services.
  • CNC & Manual Machining: Set up and operate CNC and manual lathes and mills, performing turning, milling, drilling, tapping, boring, and threading operations with precision.
  • Measurement & Inspection: Use calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision tools to inspect finished parts for compliance with design specifications.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, project managers, and other team members to ensure alignment on project requirements and manufacturing goals.
  • Safety & Compliance: Enforce safety procedures, maintain a clean and organized workspace, and ensure compliance with all regulatory standards.
  • General Duties: Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by leadership to support company objectives.

Education Requirements

High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or Associate’s Degree in Machining, Manufacturing, or a related field preferred.

Minimum of 5 years of experience in a machine shop environment, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE And ADDITIONAL SKILLS

  • Proficiency in operating and setting up CNC and manual lathes, mills, and other machining equipment.
  • Experience with soldering and brazing techniques is preferred
  • Experience using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision measuring tools to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical documents.
  • Proven ability to supervise, train, and mentor machinists while promoting a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Knowledge of routine machine maintenance and troubleshooting to minimize downtime.
  • Strong digital literacy with programs such as Microsoft Office Suite, CAD, and/or CAM software is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with engineers, project managers, and other team members.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS (Manufacturing Plant)

The characteristics listed below are representative of the physical demands required by an individual to successfully perform the essential duties of a position in our manufacturing plants. Note that office positions located within our Manufacturing Plants often require some plant floor presence throughout the day so that while these demands may not always apply, they should still be noted.

  • Team Member will frequently be required to actively listen and exchange information.
  • Team Member will be required to observe and assess information in a fast paced environment.
  • Requires frequent use of a production, manufacturing equipment and/or machinery.
  • Will be required to frequently move/transport materials weighing up to 50 pounds which may require frequent bending, twisting and reaching motions.
  • Team Member may be required to remain stationary for extended periods of time.
  • Team Member may be required to stand for long periods up to 8, 10 or 12 hours shifts.
  • Team Member may be required to talk, walk, sit; use hands to finger, handle and feel objects, tools, and controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crawl or crouch.

WORK ENVIRONMENT (Manufacturing Plant)

The characteristics listed below are representative of the work environment typically encountered by an individual while performing the essential duties of a position in our manufacturing plants. Note that office positions located within our Manufacturing Plants often require some plant floor presence throughout the day so these work environment details may not always apply, they should still be noted.

  • Work space is one that contains moving mechanical parts.
  • Requires work in an indoor manufacturing environment that may be exposed to extreme heat that is not air conditioned.
  • Work environment contains loud noises and odors that may last for long periods of time or on a continual basis as well as occasional airborne particles.
  • Must wear PPE while working, which includes hairnet, hearing protection and safety glasses with side guards at all times.
  • Ability to work an 8 , 10 or 12 hour shifts as designated.
  • Able to work weekdays, weekends and overtime as designated.
