Job Position: Production Supervisor (not remote role)
Job Location: Metuchen, NJ
Reports To: Plant Manager
Job Summary:
Responsible for all production operations of shift and ensuring that all procedures and policies of the Food Safety Plan are implemented and carried out at all levels of production. Assigns and supervises personnel and related activities.
Core Job Responsibilities:
- Enforces plant safety rules, housekeeping and employee work practices in accordance with company policy, GMPs, Food Safety Plan, and OSHA regulations
- Adheres to all good manufacturing practices (GMP), food safety, HACCP and SQF process requirements; rectify and/or report any and all non-compliance to Management or the SQF practitioner immediately.
- Reports to all scheduled shifts and attends meetings as required.
- Supervises production operations in foam, straw and print departments to assure their shift is operating within the limits prescribed. Takes necessary action to maintain continuity of plant operations.
- Coordinates with the Maintenance Department to maintain equipment and utilities in proper working condition and monitors to assure equipment is utilized in a safe, efficient manner.
- Contributes to the reduction of raw material loss and maintains scrap levels within company standards.
- Responsible for participation in controlling the plant operating budget in those areas affected by their job accountabilities and reporting personnel.
- Provides accurate records of production, employee absenteeism, accidents, vacation and overtime. Responsible for data input into computer programs/systems as required for records.
- Cooperates with Quality Control Department to ensure the quality of product being produced falls within set standards and the Food Safety Plan. Takes action to isolate any product that is unacceptable and places in appropriate area for further evaluation or disposal.
- Contributes to training programs and is responsible for all shift personnel having the necessary training for maximum effectiveness in assigned job duties.
- Maintains a high level of employee relations and open communication with all employees. Responsible for communicating and enforcing company policies and procedures as they relate to the accountabilities of the supervisor and their shift personnel.
- Evaluates and review employee performance and recommends wage increase in accordance with company policy.
- Responsible for control and monitoring attendance and punctuality of entire shift
- Ensures that all personnel are aware of the need to report all food safety problems to their immediate Supervisor or a member of Management as soon as problem is detected.
Provision for Supervisor’s Absence:
- In the event of the absence of the of the Shift Supervisor a trained backup will assume the role of Shift Supervisor and all of the duties and responsibilities that are associated with the position.
Competencies:
- Receive a “pass” on a pre-employment physical, drug screen and background
- Work a 12 hour shift while standing, walking, stooping, bending, twisting, reaching, grasping and lifting throughout the entire shift.
- Requires the manual movement of repair parts and tools that may weight up to 50 pounds.
- Working in-doors in a manufacturing environment that is not air conditioned.
- Wear PPE while working which includes hairnet, hearing protection and safety glasses with side guards.
Qualifications:
Education – College Degree or equivalent experience in field
Experience – Three years of supervision in a manufacturing environment
Skills – Mechanical aptitude; computer literate (preferably using Excel, Microsoft Office and PayCor), good verbal and written communication skills; ability to read, write and speak English; have good problem solving and organizational skills; Able to obtain a forlift certification and Authorized in LOTO
