FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Location: District Central Office
Days: Monday – Friday
Salary: In accordance with the WFEP contract
Job Summary:
The Campus Safety Officer is responsible for supporting the safety and security of district facilities. This position includes monitoring the receptionist area, patrolling, monitoring for threats, enforcing policies and procedures, responding to emergencies, and promoting a safe and respectful Central Office facility. The role requires effective communication with students, staff, law enforcement, and the broader school community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise all aspects of visitor management.
- Monitor entrances, hallways, and key areas for hazards, policy violations, or unauthorized access.
- Respond to emergencies, disturbances, or crises, providing support as needed.
- Enforce building safety procedures, rules, and district policies.
- Support implementation of drills (lockdowns, visitor protocols, threat assessments).
- Promote positive behavior and respect for district regulations.
- Maintain accurate records and reports of all incidents and interventions.
- Answer phones and provide information or direct calls.
- Act as a liaison between personnel, local law enforcement, and the community.
- Maintain a professional and ethical image that promotes safety and respect.
- Other duties as assigned by Administrator and/or Superintendent.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and listening skills.
- Sound judgment, integrity, and discretion in handling confidential matters.
- Ability to remain calm and respond effectively in high-pressure situations.
- Report writing, documentation, and technology proficiency (e.g., digital logs, radios, surveillance).
- Organizational, observational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to build rapport with staff and the general public.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of security and emergency protocols in educational settings.
- Experience working with diverse populations and urban school settings.
- Bilingual skills (Spanish-English).
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for long periods.
- Must lift and/or move up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Exposure to varying weather, physical confrontations, or high-stress situations.
- Flexible scheduling may infrequently include evenings or weekends.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Must pass a background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate degree in criminal justice or related field.
- Prior experience in security, law enforcement, or military.
- CPR/First Aid certified; restraint training and ParaPro certification.
