Systems Administrator Job Description
The Systems Administrator performs administrative database management, problem solving, statistical analysis, report writing, and maintenance related to the systems for Windham Public Schools (WPS). The position oversees aspects of the student information system (SIS), connected databases, servers, and backups.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Maintenance and administration of the student information system, including but not limited to, Gradebooks/Power Teacher management, Parent Portal management, account profiles, files, tables, records, data imports/exports.
- Troubleshoots and resolves day-to-day issues with the student information system; monitors school connections and systems availability.
- Manages systems capacities and prepares plans to avoid shortfalls; ensures all server and SIS backups run according to schedule.
- Performs data uploads and monitors synchronization to various systems, such as Clever, Follet, Google Classroom, etc. Performs data exports for use in various WPS systems, formats, integration or analysis of data.
- Trains and assists system users with the student information system; prepares and improves technical documentation, writes technical and user policies/procedures.
- Assists and supports student information system operating system; coordinates repairs/fixes with vendor; maintains security/integrity standards and controls in servers.
- Assists in providing student information system technical expertise in planning projects; assists in performing Connecticut State Reporting, including PSIS, TCS, ED reports according to published timetables.
- Assists in performing Federal reporting, including CRDC.
- Assists and supports student registration and enrollment as required.
- Stays up to date with current and emerging programming languages and technologies related to technical systems.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Bachelor's Degree Required
- Minimum 5 years related experience
- A combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the responsibilities of this position may be considered in lieu of stated education and experience requirements.
- Experience with Powerschool, database management, Connecticut state reporting, statistical analysis, programming language, technology support including network troubleshooting and end user application support.
- Strong communication skills required, i.e., must be capable of effectively presenting information, conducting user training, user application support, and responding to questions from all levels of the organization.
