Job Summary: This position may be a Licensed Medical Nurse Assistant, Licensed Nurse Assistant, or Medical Assistant. The assistant to the nurse works under the direction of the school nurse.
Reports to: Registered Nurse, Assistant Principal, Principal
Work Schedule: 6.5 hours per day with a 1/2-hour lunch
RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:
1. Greet and screen students and treat them if within the scope of practice or defer to the nurse.
2. Perform and document clinical procedures and student visits.
3. Maintain the cleanliness and general appearance of work, examination, and
treatment areas; clean, disinfect, and maintain equipment and instruments
following standard precautions and infection control.
4. Stock supplies and notify if supply is low.
5. Assist special education IAs with students when necessary.
6. Assist with answering telephones, taking messages, filing and performing other
administrative duties to meet the needs of the health office.
7. Assist with computer entry such as immunizations, physical exams, hearing and
vision screenings, heights and weights, student visits, and any other screenings as
appropriate. Organize all extracurricular event needs.
8. Recognize limitations and seek advice and direction from other appropriate
clinical staff.
9. Administer medications that are delegated once competencies have been passed. Only administer medications that are within the scope as determined by a nurse.
10. Pass a yearly medication competency exam prior to administering
medications.
11. Acquire new knowledge and skills to remain current in practice.
12. Comply with the Policies and Procedures of the Windham School District.
13. Must be able to effectively communicate in person and over the telephone.
14. Must be able to respond calmly to emergency situations
Qualifications: Licensed through the State of New Hampshire or certified. Must have prior experience in the medical field, school environment, or urgent care. Current CPR and First Aid Certification required.
