What are the responsibilities and job description for the Family Engagement School Counselor position at Windham Southeast Supervisory Union?

The successful candidate will be able to effectively discuss how they work with historically marginalized demographic groups of students.Academy School is a vibrant K-6 Elementary School, located on 200 acres of forested land.We are seeking a dynamic, professional candidate to fill the role of Family Engagement School Counselor.This is a versatile position that requires great communication skills and flexible thinking, as this position has many components. The ideal candidate will be trauma informed, dedicated to creating a school counseling program that aligns with ASCA national standards and serves all students, and who is committed to fostering equity for all students.They will have a Masters in Social Work or Counseling and will be experienced in working with diverse families.
Our model focuses on direct services to students in classrooms as well as individual and small group levels.Candidates should be comfortable case managing in collaboration with classroom teachers, administration, and other members of the health and wellness team, as well as consulting with staff to plan universal SEL interventions, crisis intervention, and mandated reporting.Positive communication with families, outside agencies, and among school staff is a must.The successful candidate will have knowledge of bullying/ harassment practices and will help to manage Section 504 plans for students.Interest in or experience with restorative practices is preferred.The ability to build and maintain relationships with the greater community is essential to this position.Additionally, this person will work cooperatively with families and school personnel to support the needs of families in the best interest of all students. Due to the nature of this position and the need to work with multiple stakeholders, being on time and flexible is important.This position responds to the current needs of our school, and tasks and responsibilities are adjusted fluidly. Some of the consistent responsibilities of this position are: -Attend all PTO meetings (once per month) and all school events-Be available to all stakeholders consistently and in a timely fashion using many methods of communication including current technologies-Work collaboratively with outside agencies to respond to the needs of families-Maintain a flexible schedule that is responsive to the needs of families-Work collaboratively with teachers and other counseling staff as a liaison between staff and families-Take a leadership role in planning and carrying out parent/ caregiver involvement activities-Use materials and resources to effectively promote parent/ caregiver collaboration and involvement in school activities-Support community needs for food, clothing, medical care and housing through collaboration and advocacy; while utilizing resources and events such as Veggie Van Go (the Vermont Foodbank), and organizing winter wearPlease apply via schoolspring.
