JOB TITLE: Executive Director

SUMMARY

The Executive Director is responsible for the efficient operations and overall management and direction of the day-to-day functions of the property in accordance with federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations. Hire, evaluate, coordinate, monitor performance, schedule and supervise staff in accordance with company policy. The Executive Director is also responsible for achieving and maintaining budgeted occupancy; achieving and maintaining budgetary compliance; managing risk and compliance activities, ensuring the individual service plans are carried out, representing the property to the community and the Corporation to internal and external customers and employees; and, creating a supportive, safe, and enjoyable lifestyle for the residents and families.

Reports to: Regional Director and other Corporate Staff Members as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Assume the administrative authority, responsibility and accountability of directing the overall management and control of the operations of the community, its residents, its staff, and financial assets. Delegates administrative authority and responsibility for day-to-day operations to personnel in charge when absent from property.

2. Serve as a mentor to all managers and staff as the leader of the overall operations of the community

3. Be familiar with and responsible for the property’s compliance with corporate policies and procedures, as well as all laws, local, state, and federal regulations, and legal requirements governing the operation of the property. Ensures that all policies governing the property are carried out and closely monitored.

4. Maintain and updates an operations and sales report weekly or other tool to monitor marketing and sales efforts and to project monthly achievements of targeted census goals.

5. Recruit, hire, evaluate, coordinate, motivate, monitor performance, schedule and supervise staff in accordance with company policy. Recruitment and selection should focus on qualified candidates with interest in the care and management of seniors and individuals with mild cognitive impairment or dementia.

6. Ensure staff evaluations, merit pay increases, reprimands, disciplinary actions and terminations are conducted fairly and in compliance with company policy and federal and state laws. Ensure that disciplinary action is administered fairly and without regard to race, color, creed, national origin, age, sex, religion, handicap or marital status.

7. Develops an administrative plan and procedures to ensure clear definition of lines of responsibility, equitable workloads and adequate supervision of all employees.

8. Consults with department directors concerning the operation of their departments to assist in eliminating/correcting problem areas and/or improvement of service.

9. Arrange for coverage of department head job duties during their absence either through delegation or personal completion of duties.

10. Ensures management team and staff complies with their continuing education program requirements.

11. Lead stand up on a daily basis, documenting appropriately and following up with items discussed and previous items identified

12. Be available to staff, residents, managers, and corporate staff as needed on a 24-hour per day basis, while delegating responsibility appropriately and respectfully

13. Assure implementation of all operating and financial controls required under company policy.

14. Considers all expenditures within the constraints of budget.

15. Supervises maintenance of financial records, including billing and accounts receivable

16. Responsible for maintaining an accurate resident census

17. Provide Regional Director and other Corporate Staff with all requested/required reports

18. Maintain the physical property and services necessary to support the safety, health and well-being of the residents accepted for admission. Assure that residents accepted and remain at an appropriate level for property licensure

19. Ensures provision of services to the residents with appropriate regard for the residents’ physical and mental well-being and needs, including those services identified in the residents’ pre-admission appraisal.

20. Ensures residents are able to attend activities and programs including community programs and arranging for transportation if needed

21. Conduct exit-interviews with residents as needed to determine areas for community improvement to provide a high level of resident satisfaction.

22. Provide the Regional Director and other Corporate Staff with necessary interpretations of recognized standards of care and supervision.

23. Represent the property in dealing with outside agencies, including governmental agencies

24. Conducts individual resident family meetings and discusses financial obligations such as rent, fees, level of care charges, supply charges, and other items as listed on the invoice/service plan

25. Participate in capital expenditure planning and implementation per company standards

26. Participate in property surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies.

27. Review and develop a plan of correction for deficiencies noted during and after survey inspections.

28. Interpret the property’s policies and procedures to employees, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, etc. as necessary

29. Develop a strong referral development program by serving as primary liaison with and taking a leadership role in the community

30. Ensuring pre-admission assessments are accurate, comprehensive, and carried out appropriately

31. Provide corporate staff with contracts to be signed

32. Ensure discharge plans/lease terminations are carried out within policy

33. Develops and is responsible for continuous quality improvement at the community.

34. Recognizes and responds to changes in the senior and dementia care industries and responds appropriately

35. Responsible for the workplace safety including, but not limited to, active Safety Committee, adherence to all OSHA requirements, proper safety training for all employees, Injury and Illness Prevention Plan, Hazard Communications Plan, Individualized Service Plans, Exposure Control Plan and management of workers’ compensation injuries.

36. Complete all hours of state mandated continuing education per year

37. Promotes and displays a spirit of teamwork in performance of daily duties through cooperative interactions with co-workers and other departments.

38. Support a positive and professional image through actions and dress

39. Promote the property in a positive manner and effectively communicate the organization’s values to residents, visitors, co-workers and the community

40. Maintain a safe and secure environment for all staff, residents and guests, following established safety standards

41. Responsible for performing evaluations and assessments in accordance with state regulations as required

42. Performs other duties consistent with the position as assigned by the Regional Director.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor Degree in Business/Health Services Administration/Human Services with experience in health care / senior living field. Bachelor Degree may be substituted with work experience and an Associates in Science Degree. Certification such as Certified Assisted Living Manager, Certified Assisted Living Administrator, or Nursing Home Administrator may be required of this position per state regulations. Certified Dementia Practitioner Preferred.

Experience: Prefer four (4) years’ experience providing residential care to the elderly or similar experience with specialized dementia care programs.
