CAD Drafting Manager – Commercial Land Surveying Position Summary
The CAD Drafter position is responsible for the development and production of the company’s survey drafting department including all aspects of personnel management, generates weekly reports showing specific job/task allocation, hours worked (including overtime) and measures of quality and efficiency as required. Responsible for 1:1 training of new hires and mentoring existing staff for their professional development and increased productivity. Responsible for various design work and other related assignments for final Survey Preparation and Metes & Bounds Preparation related to the Commercial Land Surveying department. The CAD Drafting Manager position will report to Business Unit Leader. The work is performed in an office setting with moderate noise levels. This job frequently requires the employee to stand, walk, use hands, tools, controls, reach with arms, climb, or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; sit; use hands; read; talk or hear. The employee must lift and/or move up to 10 - 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Monday through Friday, 7am – 4pm with some weekends required during seasonal months.

Requirements
CAD Drafting Manager – Commercial Land Surveying Position Responsibilities
- Project coordination with Survey Manager to discuss project parameters and drafting requirements.
- Functionally perform the duties of a Survey Tech and CAD Drafter.
- Independently perform accurate mathematical calculations of basic algebra, trigonometry, and geometry.
- Prepare topographic, as-built, boundary, and other types of survey mapping drawings in a timely, accurate and complete manner.
- Write legal descriptions, prepare point coordinate files and stake out PDF for field crews.
- Prepare construction drawings for civil engineering work in a timely, accurate and complete manner.
- Provide professional support to field survey crews with point files, interpretations, and other information as needed.
- Maintain consistent and accurate timesheets to ensure accurate and complete billing.
- Develop, implement and execute organizational department strategy in coordination with Director Lead Professional Surveyor and other stakeholder/team members.
- Communicate in a friendly manner with employees and co-workers via phone, teams chat, email and in person.
- Review the jobs that are atypical to our daily flow for drafting and determine the root cause.
- Approve employee time sheets and PTO days.
- Help to get jobs that are due/overdue through the system and keep things on time.
- Be able to draft using our standards and help as needed.
- Balance out work as needed to keep employees busy and productive.
- Fully adhere to WSLS’s policies, procedures and work directives.
- Resolve internal/external customer issues in a prompt and professional manner.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, managers, clients and other parties as related to the WSLS’s services and overall business.
- Perform all duties as assigned to meet business needs in a safe, ethical, and professional manner.
CAD Drafting Manager – Commercial Land Surveying Skills and Experience
- Minimum of high school diploma/GED diploma required; Associates / Technical Degree or higher preferred.
- 5 year of successful job-related professional drafting experience in the surveying industry; Applied CAD experience.
- Proven and demonstrated professional skill-sets to include, but not limited to working CAD and survey experience preferred.
- Able to communicate and respond to questions in a professional and knowledgeable manner ensuring business outcomes; assertive problem-solver and action-oriented team player. Must have a relentlessly positive, flexible, do-whatever-it-takes attitude; must be fast on your feet, poised under pressure, and committed to client service.
- Ability to balance the workload to accommodate demands of the job and exceed client expectations.
- Proficient in the independent application and use of job-related software/e-technology/cloud-based solutions.
- May require a valid Driver’s License and maintain appropriate Automobile Insurance.
