Work Schedule: Schedule varies with athletic programming demands and will include evenings and weekends.

NATURE OF WORK
As a member of the Recreation Division, individuals in this position perform work in a team-based environment supporting the Department’s mission and vision along with the goals, philosophies, and initiatives of the Recreation Supervisor - Athletics. This is accomplished by performing a variety of organizing, scheduling and supervising in a variety of sport leagues for youth and adult in addition to assisting with prepping fields and park maintenance tasks.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Individuals work under the direct supervision of the Recreation Supervisor – Athletics to carry out assigned duties, functions, roles, and projects in both routine and complex circumstances.

Essential Job Functions

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The individual in the Recreation Specialist - Athletics role is assigned specific assignments, job duties, scope, authority, responsibility, roles and requirements as determined by the town, department, division, and pursuant to laws, regulation and practices. Individuals in this position must be able to successfully perform, be responsible for, and/or assist in the fulfillment of many job functions and duties, with or without reasonable accommodation.

The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive:
  • Coordinates with the Recreation Coordinators and Supervisors in organizing, scheduling and supervising a variety of sport leagues and programs appropriate for different age groups.
  • Provides direct supervision for youth and adult games and practices, including tournaments conducted by outside organizations.
  • Plans class activities and conducts individualized or group instruction to participants.
  • Evaluates program effectiveness and recommends new classes or techniques.
  • Manages sports equipment inventory to include preparing and collecting equipment, monitoring inventory, and making recommendations for new purchases.
  • Maintains athletic fields and complexes, parks, trails and open space as assigned including prepping and painting fields, planting trees and shrubs; maintaining irrigation systems; mowing and trimming lawns, shrubs and trees; weed control; raking leaves; and litter removal.
  • Maintains frequent communication with staff within the Recreation Division and reports any issues or concerns with inventory, facility conditions, policies and incidents to supervisory staff as needed.
  • Maintains work area, facilities, equipment, and reports. Set up, tear down of program related equipment.
  • Enforces Department rules and policies with staff and guests.
  • May assist with the preparation and hosting of adult and youth sports meetings
  • May assist with the scheduling practices and games, compiling rosters, scheduling officials, and other program-related tasks.
  • May train other staff in program area related duties.
  • Provides exceptional guest service to all guests. Responds to information requests, comments and complaints from the public.
  • Ensures the safety of guests and program participants by enforcing all rules and policies with staff and guests.
  • Remains composed and makes sound judgments in any emergency or non-emergency situation. Responds to emergency situations, administers first aid, CPR or other medical attention as needed, and completes incident reports.
  • Attends and participate in staff meetings and trainings.
  • May serve or fill in for the Recreation Coordinator in their absence.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
OTHER DUTIES
Depending on organizational need, additional duties may include the following:
  • The Recreation Specialist position participates in the Shared Fleet Vehicle Program, which requires an annual motor vehicle record check.
  • Performs research as directed, such as discovering new technology or tools, market research, etc.
  • Performs related duties as established by law/ordinance or reasonably directed by the town
  • Assists other town departments, as necessary.

Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND FORMAL TRAINING

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Associates degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Exercise Science or related field preferred.
  • Previous two plus years of experience preferred in customer service, recreation or related field
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES
  • Must have a current Colorado Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one upon hire, that meets the Town of Windsor’s standards
  • CPR/1st Aid certification within three (3) months of employment
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Ability to interact with all age groups this may include instruction, communication of rules and regulations and enforcing policies.
  • Knowledge of safe operating procedures for heavy equipment, machines, tools, and toxic agents
  • Ability to effectively present curriculum one-on-one and/or in group format.
  • Uses discretion and training to solve problems.
  • Demonstrate time management skills by beginning and completing assigned shifts and/or utilizing program time effectively.
  • Ability to effectively present verbal and written information and respond to questions from guests, program participants, co-workers, supervisors, volunteers, and other town employees.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, peers, and town staff. Including the ability to follow directions and demonstrate professional behavior.
  • Ability to remain composed in emergency situations, make sound judgment and work effectively with guests and other recreation staff under stressful circumstances. Ability to perform first aid, CPR and other medical attention as needed.
  • Ability to safely operate all assigned tools, safety products, and kitchen equipment. Ability to set up and tear down equipment for scheduled activities and special events.
  • Ability to complete and maintain well-organized daily records, logs and incident reports.
  • Knowledge of rules of sports and activities for all levels of participants.
  • Knowledge of RecTrac and Team Sideline preferred, but not required.

  • Equipment: Position requires use of a variety of equipment: computers, tablets or other digital equipment, digital cameras, copiers, printers, scanners, fax machines, telephones. Sport field maintenance equipment.

The physical activities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

The physical requirements of this position are considered Medium Work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.

The employee is subject to inside environmental conditions; subject to noise.

The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions: One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: Fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation.
