Diagnostic Medical Sonographer
A medical imaging professional who provides clinically relevant information to assist physicians with diagnosis and treatment of patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Position patient medical history and supporting clinical information.
- Evaluate examination orders for completeness and medical necessity.
- Prepare exam rooms and equipment according to protocols and procedures.
- Select transducers and adjust equipment as needed.
- Conduct patient assessments and perform sonography examinations ordered by providers.
- Apply independent judgment during examinations to ensure accurate image capture.
- Document limitations and incidental findings, and communicate results to interpreting physicians.
- Analyze sonograms and prepare preliminary reports.
Requirements:
- Position: Diagnostic Medical Sonographer
- Education: Position degree in ultrasound technology required; four-year degree preferred.
- Certifications: ARDMS required; registry in ABD and OB required within first year of employment.
- Experience: 1 year related work experience in general, OB, breast, and vascular sonography and interventional procedures strongly preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
- Intermediate to expert proficiency with computers.
- Knowledge of human anatomy and disease progression.
- Assessment, evaluation, and decision-making skills.
- Knowledge of ultrasound equipment and transducers.
