Job Description
The Elementary STEM Instructional Coach is a teacher who has both content and instructional expertise particularly in math and science. The STEM Instructional Coach focuses on enhancing teacher ability to provide instruction that (1) builds student understanding and skills, (2) is academically rigorous, (3) addresses the curriculum standards and instructional framework, and (4) enhances student engagement in and ownership of learning. The STEM Instructional Coach works collaboratively with administrators and classroom teachers to assist in the design and delivery of instruction, curriculum, and professional development as directed. As a member of a professional coaching community, the STEM Instructional Coach participates in professional development and inquiry into his or her own instructional leadership practice.

Qualifications
- Connecticut teaching certification in math or science, Masters degree and science background strongly preferred
- Minimum 5 years successful teaching experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of science and math, i.e., NGSS and CCSS
- Deep knowledge of inquiry and gradual release instructional models
- Deep knowledge of and experience in content, instructional strategies, conditions of learning and data driven instruction
- Effective communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills for building an environment with a common instructional focus, promoting initiatives, and conveying expectations
- Ability to support teachers in development of differentiated lessons
- Ability to model lessons demonstrating best instructional practice
- Experience in analyzing data to plan for instruction and professional development
- Demonstrated strength in organization, communication skills and efficiency in meeting deadlines
- Strong communication, organizational and leadership skills
- Ability to support science and math curriculum writing
Primary Duties And Responsibilities
Instructional Coaches facilitate change in instructional practices of teachers that will enable teachers to diagnose student needs more analytically, plan more productively, and teach more effectively.
- Provide leadership for teachers by planning, collaborating, organizing, mentoring and facilitating change to improve the instructional program.
- Observe* teachers in their classrooms and offers recommendations to improve teaching and learning.
- Facilitate the use of research-based teaching strategies and best practices to address the needs/goals of teachers and students, e.g., Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS)
- Provide staff development needed to implement the school's strategic improvement plan.
- Disaggregate and analyze data for intervention and assist principals and teachers in its interpretation to measure and improve student achievement and/or program effectiveness.
- Review, write and revise curriculum and assessments.
- Participate in walkthroughs (e.g., instructional rounds and learning walks) with Building Principals, Instructional Coaches and/or Central Office Administrators.
- Work with principals and teachers in organizing grade level/department meetings and professional development in order to affect horizontal and vertical continuity and articulation of instructional programming throughout the school.
- Provide direct support to classroom teachers to build stronger subject area content knowledge, e.g., knowledge of appropriate standards, instructional frameworks, materials, and resources. Demonstrate appropriate use of instructional technology and other educational tools to enhance and extend instruction.
- Develop and implement elementary safety/chemical hygiene plan.
- Establish, maintain and enhance effective communication with administrators, teachers, parents and other stakeholders.
- Demonstrate a commitment to professional growth and ethical standards to advance the mission, goals and policies of Windsor Public Schools.
- Serves as a member of the district and building leadership teams working to align district and building goals and to evaluate student data in support of effective school/department improvement planning.
- Perform other duties related to the improvement of student achievement as determined by the Elementary Curriculum Director and/or Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Services.
